Removing and installing front brake pads
Removal:
  Note
t  Mark brake pads when removing them if they are to be reinstalled. Reinstall in their original position to prevent uneven braking.
t  The brake disc is secured with a Torx bolt.
–  Raise the vehicle.
–  Remove wheels.
–  The brake disc is secured with a cross-head screw -1-.

–  Remove the retainer spring for the brake pads from the calliper housing using a screwdriver as a lever arrow and remove it.
  A46-10043
–  Disconnect brake pad wear indicator connector.
–  Release plug connector from bracket with screwdriver (simultaneously turn plug connector 90°)
–  Pull connector upwards out of bracket and detach wire.
  A46-0154
–  Unhook brake line from bracket.
  A46-0211
–  Remove caps -1-.
  A46-0212
–  Unscrew both guide pins from the brake calliper and remove them.
–  Remove the brake calliper housing and place it so that the weight of the brake calliper does not rest on or damage the flexible tube of the brake.
  WARNING
Do not leave brake calliper hanging from brake hose but secure it to bodywork using a suitable cable tie or wire. Take care that brake hose is not damaged by weight of brake components.
Do not apply brake when brake calliper is removed.
–  Take brake pads out of brake calliper housing or from brake carrier.
  Note
Push brake piston into cylinder with resetting tool before inserting brake pads. Before pressing the piston back, draw off brake fluid from the reservoir with a bleeder bottle. Otherwise, fluid can overflow and cause damage, particularly if reservoir has been topped up.
  A46-0213
–  Press piston back.
Installation
  A46-10038
–  Install brake pad with retaining spring and wear indicator in brake calliper housing (on piston).
  A46-0216
–  Insert outer brake pad -2- into brake calliper.
  Note
Fit brake pads into brake calliper and install assembly on brake carrier / brake disc.
  A46-0217
–  Screw the brake calliper casing to the brake back plate with the two guide pins, tightening them to 30 Nm.
–  Ensure that the brake hose is not twisted during assembly.
–  Fit the two protective covers.
–  Insert retaining spring into brake calliper housing.
–  Connect brake line.
–  Connect connector on wear indicator and hook line into dust boot and cap.
–  Mount the wheels → Running gear, shafts, steering; Rep. gr.44
  Note
t  Install retaining spring under pressure below brake support plate after hooking onto both stud bolts. If this is incorrectly fitted then the wear on the outer pad cannot be corrected, this will gradually extend the pedal stroke.
t  After fitting the brake pads, operate the brake pedal strongly with the vehicle stopped so that the brake pads adopt the position corresponding to normal operation.
–  Check the brake fluid level and refill in case of doubt.
