Gear change mechanism: removing
–  Removing the gear selector handle → Chapter
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Removing central console → Bodywork, interior fitting work; Rep. Gr.68.
   
–  Disconnect connector -A- from the gear selection mechanism towards the vehicle set of cables.
–  Remove engine cover → Booklet2.
–  Remove the air filter housing, the air hose and the conduit → Rep. Gr.24 and → Rep. Gr.23.
–  Put the gear selector lever into position “P”.

–  Remove plate safety clip -C-.
–  Press the safety washer -A- upwards and remove by turning clockwise.
–  Disengage the selector lever cable from the selector rod shaft, following the direction indicated by the arrow and place above.
–  Do not loosen the bolt -B-.
–  Do not bend the selector lever cable.
–  Raise the vehicle.

–  Remove central soundproofing, bolts -1 ... 3-.
–  Dismount primary exhaust pipes with the catalyser and primary silencer → Rep. Gr.26.

–  Take off clips -arrows- and remove heat shield backwards.
  Note
To remove the gear selection mechanism, the help of a second mechanic is required from underneath the vehicle.

–  Unscrew the bolts (from above) -arrows-.
–  Remove the gear selection mechanism and the selector lever cable by pulling downwards.
–  Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
The gear selection mechanism may also be replaced without the selector cable; To do so, it is necessary to separate the selector lever cable from the gear selection mechanism and detach the cable → Chapter.
Gear change mechanism: fitting
Install in reverse order. The following must be taken into account:

–  Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
–  Fit the heat shield and the trimmings from the vehicle underbody.
–  Install the exhaust system free of stress → Rep. Gr.26..
–  Fit the gear selection mechanism cover and the selector lever handle → Chapter.
–  Check functioning of the ignition key withdrawal lock control unit → Chapter.
–  Adjusting the selector lever cable → Chapter
–  Gear change mechanism: checking → Chapter.
