| Remove track rod from gear rack with an open-jawed wrench insert-1-. |

Note | t
| If corrosion, damage, wear or traces of dirt are visible on the gear rack, the steering gear must be replaced completely. |

| If no grease film is visible on the gear rack, the steering gear must also be replaced completely. |
| Before installing, the gear rack must be coated with the grease -G 052 192 A1- supplied with the repair kit. |
Caution | Never use another grease. |

| To do so, turn the steering consecutively to both sides up to the stop. |
| To provide a clearer illustration, the picture shows a removed steering gear. |
| –
| Detach open warm-type clamp on the other side of the steering gear and pull off bellows from steering gear housing. |
|
|
|
| –
| Grease gear rack on the side of the gear -A- and on the pressure plate side with grease -G 052 192 A1-. |
| –
| Turn steering wheel to the straight ahead position. |
| –
| Re-install the bellows and the new warm-type clamp on the other side of the steering gear. |
|
|
|
| –
| Clamp new open warm-type clamp with clamp pliers for steering gear, e. g. -VAS 6199- as far as shown in the figure. |

|
|
| –
| Turn track rod into the gear rack and tighten with an open-jawed wrench insert-1-. |

Note | Only use original open warm-type clamps. |
| After the installation, the vehicle must be aligned → Chapter. |

|
|
| Track rod end to track rod | 55 Nm |
| Track rod to gear rack | 100 Nm |
| Wheel bolts | 120 Nm |
