Removing and installing the starter
Removing
–  Switch off ignition.
   
–  Push the battery cover -1- to one side -arrow A- and remove.
–  Disconnect earth strap of the battery.
–  Remove the noise insulation.
–  Bring the lock carrier into the service position for vehicles which have cramped working conditions because of the vehicle equipment → Body Work; Rep. Gr.50.
  Note
t  On certain engines or depending on the vehicle equipments, it may be necessary to loosen the engine mountings and to raise the engine using the supporting device -MP 9-200 - → Engine; Rep. Gr.10.
t  It may also be necessary, depending on the engine and gearbox version, on vehicles which have air conditioning, to loosen the brackets of the refrigerant hoses → Heating, Air conditioning system; Rep. Gr.87.
t  On vehicles fitted with an automatic gearbox it may be necessary, depending on the engine, to loosen or remove the hoses at their brackets from the automatic gearbox to the gearbox oil cooler → Automatic gearbox; Rep. Gr.37.

–  Unplug connector -1- (terminal 50).
–  Unscrew cable -2- at solenoid switch (terminal 30).

–  Unscrew the screw clamp -arrow- for attaching the heat shield, if present.
Mounting of the starter on the engine block

On certain engines or depending on the gearbox versions, the mounting bracket -arrow C- is not fitted.
–  Unscrew the securing nut -arrow A- (22 Nm).
–  Unscrew the securing nut -arrows B- (4 Nm) and remove the mounting bracket of the starter.
Mounting of the starter on the clutch housing

–  Remove the screws -1- and -2- (sectional drawing of the clutch housing) from the clutch housing (65 Nm) and remove the starter downwards.
Install
Installation is performed in the reverse order, pay attention to the following points:
–  The tightening torque for terminal 30 of the starter: 16 Nm
–  Pay attention to the work sequence when connecting the battery → Chapter.
