Steering  

Repair Notes  

The operations are described for left-hand drive vehicles. Special units intended for right-hand drive are specially indicated.  

For diagnosis or repair work on vehicles requiring a lifting platform, use is to be made of the particular points intended for this on the vehicle underbodies.  

When removing vehicle wheels mark indicate positions on the wheel hub. These indications are to be observed when reassembling. No dirt is to be permitted between the brake disk and wheel hub prior to assembly. The contact surfaces must be flat and scratch-free. The wheel bolts must always be tightened with a torque of 110 Nm.  

Disarm the Power Sounder before disconnecting the vehicle battery on Vauxhall vehicles: Disconnect the vehicle battery 15 seconds after switching off the ignition.  

The earth lead of the battery is to be disconnected before all related work. Following the reconnection of the battery, volatile memories (electric window regulator) are to be reprogrammed. With regard to the radio coding and the transmitter memory the customer is to make known the decoding and the erased transmitter memory.  

The hydraulic steering gear is maintenance-free. Dealer workshops do not need to overhaul or disassemble.  

 

 

Repair Notes (Continued)  

Bolt connections, fitted with locking devices, must have the thread cut back. The new bolts are to be installed with locking devices.  

The 'use by' date is to be checked before using adhesive or sealing materials. In no circumstances are expired storage time products to be used.  

Special work tools are to be taken from the "Opel/Vauxhall-Special Tools" catalogue, other necessary tools and equipment are to be taken from the "Opel/Vauxhall-Workshop Equipment" catalogue.  

Cable harnesses and cable ducts which must be loosened or removed during repair work are to be replaced in their original location using original parts (cable binder, clips, cable channel brackets, etc.) from the "Service" area.  

For work carried out on the under side of the vehicle underride protection are to be constructed as necessary. The constructions are to be assembled using a tightening torque of 20 Nm.  

Special oil is to be used for the filling of hydraulic units - see "Technical Data - Hydraulic Steering".  

Used oil may not be used again.

All work is to be carried out in accordance with to the regulations of the existing local authorities which concern health, accident prevention and the environment. For work in the engine compartment it is to be observed that the fan can be switched on - Danger of injury !
