Check the bearing clearance of the crankshaft (use micrometer and internal measuring device) > < Toothed Belt Drive Gear - Crankshaft Sprocket, Replace

Check crankshaft bearing clearance (with Plastigage)

  Measure

Important:   Do not turn the crankshaft
1.   Place the Plastigage
•   Lay 5 Plastigages (deformable plastic strips) axially across the entire width of the crankshaft bearing journal (1)
Note:   The Plastigage can be ordered from the "Opel/Vauxhall Workshop Equipment" catalogue.

Important:   Note tightening order.
2.   Attach cylinder block base plate
Note:   Note differing bolts. It is not necessary to replace the bolts for the measuring procedure.
•   (I) Tighten 10 M10 bolts 20 Nm + 80°
•   (II) Tighten 10 M8 bolts 30 Nm

3.   Detach cylinder block base plate
Note:   Note differing bolts
•   Unscrew 20 bolts
4.   Measure crankshaft bearing clearance
•   Press the plastic 5 strips (1) flat and check the width against the scale (2)
Note:   When reading off the value, do not confuse the metric and imperial (inch) measurements on the scale.
•   Permissible crankshaft bearing clearance: 0.028 – 0.048 mm
