Replace piston rings

Remove all pistons with con-rods
Note: Remove all
pistons with con-rods - see operation "Remove and install all
pistons with con-rods".

Removing piston rings
• |
Remove piston rings using piston ring pliers (1)
|
|
3. |
Clean ring grooves
Note: Clean piston ring
groove for rectangular compression ring (2), tapered compression
ring (3) and oil scraper ring (4) using ground side of an old
piston ring.

4. |
Checking gap
Note: Permitted piston
ring gap - see "Technical Data"

Insert piston rings in cylinder

• |
Check gap using feeler gauge
|
|

5. |
Attach piston rings
Note: Use piston ring
pliers to insert piston rings into ring groove with "TOP" marking
facing up
|
6. |
Adjust piston rings
• |
Piston rings (I), rectangular compression ring (1) and tapered
compression ring (2) offset by 180°
|
• |
Offset oil scraper rings (3) (II) 25 - 50 mm to right and left
of intermediate ring gap
|
|
7. |
Check piston ring vertical play
• |
Check using feeler gauge in ring groove
|
|
|
|
9. |
Install all pistons with con-rods
Note: Install all
pistons with con-rods - see operation "Remove and install all
pistons with con-rods".
