Remove and install all pistons with con-rods (Z 14 XE, Z 16 YNG with air conditioning, RHD) > < Piston Rings, Replace

Replace piston rings

1.   Remove all pistons with con-rods
Note:   Remove all pistons with con-rods - see operation "Remove and install all pistons with con-rods".
2.   Removing piston rings
•   Remove piston rings using piston ring pliers (1)
3.   Clean ring grooves
Note:   Clean piston ring groove for rectangular compression ring (2), tapered compression ring (3) and oil scraper ring (4) using ground side of an old piston ring.
4.   Checking gap
Note:   Permitted piston ring gap - see "Technical Data"
•   Insert piston rings in cylinder
•   Check gap using feeler gauge

5.   Attach piston rings
Note:   Use piston ring pliers to insert piston rings into ring groove with "TOP" marking facing up
6.   Adjust piston rings
•   Piston rings (I), rectangular compression ring (1) and tapered compression ring (2) offset by 180°
•   Offset oil scraper rings (3) (II) 25 - 50 mm to right and left of intermediate ring gap
7.   Check piston ring vertical play
•   Check using feeler gauge in ring groove

8.   Replace piston rings
•   3 pistons
9.   Install all pistons with con-rods
Note:   Install all pistons with con-rods - see operation "Remove and install all pistons with con-rods".
