Idler, Replace > < Steering Arm, Replace

Centre Tie Rod, Replace

Caution

Vehicles with airbag: Turn steering wheel to straight-ahead position, remove ignition key and allow steering and ignition lock to engage.

  Remove

Remove front wheels.

If necessary: Remove lower engine compartment cover.

Remove fastening nuts and press tie rod end (1) on both sides out of steering knuckle with KM-507-C.

Remove protective cap. Remove fastening nut.

Mark position of steering arm (2) with respect to steering shaft and to centre tie rod.

Remove steering arm from steering shaft using KM-146-01 (1).

Detach idler bracket (2) from side member and remove centre tie rod in assembly with outer tie rods, steering arm and idler.

Clamp centre tie rod (3) in vice with protective jaws.

Remove fastening nuts for steering arm and idler at centre tie rod and detach steering arm from centre tie rod with KM-146-01.

With outer tie rods, press off from centre tie rod with KM-507-C.

  Install

Attach both outer tie rods (2 and 5) to centre tie rod (3) using new fastening nut – tightening torque 60 Nm / 44 lbf. ft.

Attach steering arm (4) and idler (1) with new fastening nut to centre tie rod – note installation position – tightening torque 60 Nm / 44 lbf. ft.

Insert assembly of centre tie rod and attach with idler to side member – tightening torque 55 Nm / 41 lbf. ft. + 75° + 15°.

Attach steering arm to steering shaft – note previously made marks – attach fastening nut with washer – tightening torque 160 Nm / 118 lbf. ft. Attach protective cap (6).

Attach tie rods to steering knuckle on both sides – tightening torque 60 Nm / 44 lbf. ft.

If removed: Attach lower engine compartment cover.

Mount front wheels – tightening torque 110 Nm / 81 lbf. ft.
