Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  "Torque wrench - 5 to 50 Nm (enc. 1/2")" -VAG 1331-
t  "Torque wrench - 40 to 200 Nm (enc. 1/2")" - VAG 1332-
t  Torque wrench - 4 to 20Nm (enc. 3/8") -VAG 1410 -
t  Brake pedal pressing device -VAG 1869/2-

  Note
t  After replacing the brake pads, repeatedly press the brake pedal with the vehicle stopped so that the brake pads are perfectly seated for operation.
t  To aspirate the brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir, use the Brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234- or Accessory set for bleeder -V.A.G 1869/4-.
t  Before removing the brake caliper or a brake caliper hose, you must place the Brake pedal pressing device -VAG 1869/2-.
  WARNING
Always replace self-locking nuts and screws subject to angular torque
   
1 - Phillips screw
q   4 Nm
2 - Brake disc
q   Thickness 9 mm
q   Wear limit 7 mm
q   always replace from the same axle
q   to remove, first release the brake caliper
q   Do not remove the brake discs from the wheel hub with with excessive force, use a rust remover if necessary, otherwise the discs may be damaged.
3 - Cap
q   remove and install → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. Gr.42.
4 - Self-locking splined nut, 90 Nm + 30°
q   replace
5 - Wheel hub with wheel roller bearing and rotor
q   remove and install → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. Gr.42.
6 - Hexagonal head screw
q   60 Nm
q   with dish spring
7 - Cover plate
8 - Axle end
9 - ABS speed sensor
q   before installing the sensor, clean the internal surface of the hole and apply Lubricating Putty -G 000 650- around the sensor. Refer to the → Chemicals Manual
10 - Internal hex head screw
q   8 Nm
11 - Axle body
12 - Handbrake cable
q   Handbrake - adjust → Chapter
13 - Internal hex head screw
q   80 Nm
14 - Brake hose/brake tube
q   with hollow screw and sealing rings
q   Torque of the hollow screw in the brake caliper 50 Nm
q   do not loosen the brake hose to replace the brake pads
15 - Hexagonal head, self-locking screw
q   35 Nm
q   replace
16 - Brake caliper
q   repair → Chapter
q   remove and install → Chapter
17 - Brake pads
q   Thickness 11.5 mm
q   Wear limit: 7.5 mm including the rear plate
q   Check thickness:
q   always replace from the same axle
q   remove and install → Chapter
18 - Brake pad retaining spring
q   always replace after a pad is replaced
19 - Brake support with guide pins and protection cover
q   it is supplied as replacement part assembled and with the necessary amount of grease on the guide pins
q   in case of damages to the protection covers or to the guide pins, install the repair set; Use the grease package supplied to lubricate the guide pins
