X05 Excessive oil consumption

NOTA: High consumption during the first few thousand kilometres is considered normal.

0	PRELIMINARY CHECKS Check that the level of the engine oil is not high Op. 1048A10 Check that there is no engine oil in the coolant Check that the end of the exhaust pipe is not dirty with oil Check whether there is blueish smoke in the exhaust Carry out a consumption test	OK	Move onto step 1

2	CYLINDER BLOCK/CRANKASE SURFACE CHECK Remove the cylinder head Op. 1016C10 That that the following are absent: oily deposits on the valves; defects in the cylinder block/crankcase surface; defects in the cylinder head gasket;	OK	Move onto step 3
		Cylinder block/crankcase surface defective	Reface the cylinder block/crankcase End of diagnosis
		Oily deposits on the valves	Overhaul the cylinder head Op. 1016E10 End of diagnosis
3	CYLINDER LINER/BORE CHECK Check the cylinder liners/bores. In particular: no deep machining scoring; no vitrification of the liners/bores; make sure that there is no ovality or wear	OK	Move onto step 4
		Deep scoring or excessive ovality	Replace the engine Op. 1004B10 End of diagnosis
		Deep scoring or excessive ovality	Regrind the cylinder End of diagnosis
