X12 Engine oil leaks

A leak of engine oil can be seen with dripping and/or fouling of the engine

Step	Test procedure	Result	Action
0	PRELIMINARY CHECKS Preliminarily carry out a visual inspect to locate the component or area which is leaking. If the visual inspection is not sufficient, wash the engine, dry it and cover the parts involved in talc: road test the vehicle to identify the leak	OK	Move onto step 1
		Leak from the drain plug	Move onto step 1
		Leak from the sump	Move onto step 2

1	DRAIN PLUG CHECK Check the condition and the seal of the oil drain plug	OK	Move onto step 2
1		Tightening of drain plug not correct	Restore the correct tightening End of diagnosis
2	OIL SUMP CHECK Verify: the condition of the oil sump; the seal of the sealant between the sump and the crankcase that the bolts fixing the sump are correctly tightened	OK	Move onto step 3
		Oil sump damaged or distorted	Replace the oil sump Op. 1020A20 End of diagnosis
		Oil sump damaged or distorted	Restore the correct tightening End of diagnosis
3	OIL FILTER CHECK Verify: the condition of the oil filter; the seal and condition of the gasket for 1.6 120 hp and 2.0 engines, condition of water-oil heat exchanger	OK	Move onto step 4
		Oil filter damaged or distorted	Replace the oil filter and gasket Op. 1004B30 End of diagnosis
		Heat exchanger with oil leaks	End of diagnosis
4	ENGINE GASKETS CHECK Gain access to the crankshaft and camshaft oil seals Check the seal of these gaskets	OK	Move onto step 5
		Crankshaft gaskets damaged	Replace the gaskets involved End of diagnosis
		Crankshaft gaskets damaged	Replace the gaskets involved End of diagnosis
