Refitting timing belt

Diagram showing a wrench tool (1860831000) positioned on the camshaft pulleys to facilitate timing belt positioning.
  1. To facilitate the positioning of the timing belt loosen the bolt fixing the camshaft pulley, inlet side and the camshaft pulley, exhaust side, using tool 1860831000. These pullies in fact have slots, allowing the correct matching of the belt/pulley.
Schematic diagram of the timing belt routing around six numbered components: crankshaft drive pinion (1), fixed pulley (2), camshaft pulley exhaust side (3), camshaft pulley inlet side (4), automatic tensioner pulley (5), and water pump pulley (6).
  1. Fit the belt following the instructions in the order given:
  • crankshaft drive pinion (1);
  • fixed pulley (2);
  • camshaft pulley, exhaust side (3);
  • camshaft pulley, inlet side (4);
  • automatic tensioner pulley (5);
  • water pump pulley (6).

NOTE The belt should be fitted trying to avoid bending it at acute angles so as not to adversely affect the structure of the belt itself.

Fit the belt so that the arrow on it follows the direction of rotation of the engine. There are also 3 reference marks on the belt which should coincide during the first fitting of the new belt with the references on the crankshaft gear and the camshaft pullies, exhaust side and inlet side.
