CLIMATE CONTROL AIR FLOW IRREGULAR

Manual Air Conditioning

The flow of air sent by the fan motor in the passenger compartment using the manual speed control is not sufficient; it does not correspond to the speed set.

Results of the tests
1AIR DUCTS CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check that the air ducts are intact and the vents are not blocked and are correctly positioned in the openingMove on to Step 2Air ducts or vents obstructed.Restore the operation of the air ducts and the vents removing any material causing an obstruction.
2CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATION OF SPEED SELECTORAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Check that the fan is working at the maximum speed: if it only works at the maximum speed, the resistor should be replaced

Check whether the resistor thermal fuse is broken by measuring the electrical continuity at the thermal fuse securing points..

3CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATION OF FANAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check whether the electrical wiring connections are loose: disconnect/reconnect the connection to the engine mounting. Check that it rotates at all speeds by activating them using the switch. If it does not rotate at the maximum speed, check the vehicle fuse. If the defect persists, before replacing it, provide a direct battery supply and check that it rotates at maximum speed.Move on to Step 4Electrical connections looseRenew the electrical connections

Automatic Air Conditioning

The flow of air sent by the fan motor in the passenger compartment using the manual speed control is not sufficient; it does not correspond to the speed set.

Results of the tests
1CHECK ON OPERATION OF FAN BY CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM CONTROL UNITAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
With the engine started, set the climate control system control unit in the AUTO position, adjust the temperature to 22 °C, position the recirculation to outside air intake and the distribution to the front position. Adjust the fan button (+ side) gradually increasing the speed set and then decreasing the speed using the (- side) button and check the effect on the variation of the air flow rateEnd of diagnosisThere is no variation in the air flow rateMove on to Step 2
2CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Connect the diagnostic equipment and check:

  • that there are no errors at the passenger compartment fan
  • that there are no errors at the distribution actuator
  • that there are no errors linked to the fan (short circuit errors)

3AIR DUCTS CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

4CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATION OF FANAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Check whether the electrical wiring connections are loose: disconnect/reconnect the connection to the engine mounting.

Repeat the checks using the Examiner and check whether the fan error reoccurs. Carry out the tests described in Test 5040CE in order

See Test 5040C AIR CONDITIONER BOX AND COMPONENTS

Move on to Step 5Malfunction of the regulator built into the fan motor supportReplace the fan motor support
5CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATION OF DISTRIBUTION ACTUATORAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check whether the electrical wiring connections are loose. Disconnect/reconnect the connection at the engine support. If it persists, before replacing the actuator, check the operation by manually activating the function that the actuator should carry out. With the engine running, switch on the fan at maximum speed. Place the flaps in the various distribution positions using the control/control unit (in manual mode). Check the air flow intake into the passenger compartment with your hand over the vents.End of diagnosisThere is no air flow intake into the passenger compartment through the vents.

Replace the distribution actuator

Before refitting the replacement actutator, check whether the flaps inside the climate control unit may be broken or mechanically stuck
