There are decreases in performance during acceleration

Results of the tests
0PRELIMINARY CHECKSAll OKProblems metOperation

First check:

  • the condition of the air filter;
  • the condition of the air intake circuit
  • no obstructions in the exhaust pipe
Continue to Step 1Air intake circuit checkEliminate the problem, if necessary replacing the filter element Op. 1048A14
Pipe obstructedRestore the operation of the exhaust pipe
1CHECKING WITH DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTAll OKProblems metOperation

Connect the diagnostic equipment (Examiner or other instruments) to the diagnostic socket.

Verify:

  • that there are no faults in the engine management control unit
  • the plausibiilty of the parameters
Continue to Step 2'Fuel system' error appearsSee table Z50 MIXTURE STRENGTH ERROR
Another error dectected in the control unitContinue following the instructions for the diagnostic equipment
Another error dectected in the control unitContinue following the instructions for the diagnostic equipment
2ROAD TEST WITH DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTAll OKProblems metOperation

Carry out a road test keeping the diagnostic equipment connected

Verify:

  • that there are no faults in the engine management control unit
  • the plausibiilty of the parameters
Continue to Step 3'Fuel system' error appearsSee table Z50 MIXTURE STRENGTH ERROR
Sudden occurrence of another error detectedContinue following the instructions for the diagnostic equipment
Sudden occurrence of another error detectedContinue following the instructions for the diagnostic equipment
3FUEL PRESSURE ROAD TESTAll OKProblems metOperation

1.8 16v

2.4 20v

Road test the vehicle and check the fuel supply pressure in the conditions that lead to the anomalyOp. 0510C10Continue to Step 4Insufficient fuel presure: pipes obstructedEliminate the obstructions
Insufficient fuel pump: pump faultyReplace pump assembly Op. 1040A70

Insufficient fuel pump: pump faultyReplace pump assembly Op. 1040A70
4MODULAR MANIFOLD SOLENOID CHECKAll OKProblems metOperation

1.8 16v

2.4 20v

Carry out active diagnosis of modular manifold solenoidContinue to Step 6Faulty solenoidContinue to Step 5
5MODULAR MANIFOLD SOLENOID CIRCUIT CHECKAll OKProblems metOperation

1.8 16v

2.4 20v

Check the supply and earth of the modular manifold solenoid See E5030 PETROL ENGINE ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENTContinue to Step 6Solenoid valve faultyReplace the solenoid valve
Connections not correctRestore connections See E5030 PETROL ENGINE ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT
6CHECK MODULAR MANIFOLDAll OKProblems metOperation

1.8 16v

2.4 20v

Check the modular manifold is working properly.Continue to Step 7Pneumatic actuator not working.

Restore the correct connection See E5030 PETROL ENGINE ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT

If necessary, replace the actuator

Faulty manifoldReplace the manifold

Check power and earth of variable valve timing system solenoid See E5030 PETROL ENGINE ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENTContinue to Step 9Variable valve timing system faultyReplace the phase transformer
Connections not correctRestore connections See E5030 PETROL ENGINE ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT
9CHECKING VARIABLE VALVE TIMING SYSTEMAll OKProblems metOperation

1.8 16v

2.4 20v

Check the operation of the variable valve timing system by powering the solenoid of the variator directly during idling.

There must be a significant change in engine speed (surging or very irregular idle)

Continue to Step 10There are no changes in engine speed: timing variator stuckReplace the phase transformer
10CHECKING TIMINGAll OKProblems metOperation
Check that the timing is correctContinue to Step 11Timing incorrectRestore the correct timing
11CHECKING CYLINDER COMPRESSIONAll OKProblems metOperation
Carry out the cylinder compression test Op. 0510A10Continue to Step 13Insufficient cylinder compressionContinue to Step 12
12CHECKING CAUSE OF INSUFFICIENT COMPRESSIONAll OKProblems metOperation

Carry out R/R on head to check the valve seal

Check the condition of the cylinders/piston rings

Continue to Step 13Insufficient valve sealOverhaul the cylinder head
Cylinders/piston rings wornRepair the leak
13CHECKING CORRECT OPERATIONAll OKProblems metOperation
Check that the fault is no longer presentFault persists: control unit defective

Replace control unit Op. 1056B82
