Remove
1. Slacken the wheel nuts, raise the vehicle and remove the rear road wheels.

2. Remove the hub and drum assemblies (four bolts each side).
3. Remove the brake shoes (refer to Operation Number 12 285 0).

4. Detach the handbrake cables from the back plates.
1. Detach the cables from the rear axle clips.
2. Depress the retaining clips.
3. Pull out the cables.
Vehicles built before 1996 model year

5. Detach the brake hose brackets (one nut each side).
All vehicles

CAUTION:

When detached suspend the back plates to prevent damage to the flexible brake hoses.

6. Detach the back plates (two rivets each side).
7. Support the axle assembly.
Vehicles built before 1996 model year

8. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolts (one each side).
Vehicles built after 1996 model year

9. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolts (one each side).
Rear Spring Assembly - Remove (15 621 0)
All vehicles

10. Remove the rear springs.
1. Lower the rear axle assembly.
2. Remove the rear springs.

11. Remove the axle mounting bracket bolts (four bolts each side).
12. Lower and remove the rear axle assembly.

13. Remove the axle mounting brackets (one nut and bolt each side).

CAUTION:

Before removing the pivot bush lubricate the shaft of the special tool with the grease provided with the tool.

14. Remove the rear suspension pivot bush.
Install

NOTE:

The final tightening of the rear suspension components should be carried out when the vehicle weight is on the road wheels.

CAUTION:

Before refitting the pivot bush lubricate the shaft of the special tool with the grease provided with the tool.

15. Refit the components in the reverse order.
Vehicles built after 1996 model year

16. Carefully pull out the rubber lip on the inboard side of the pivot.
All vehicles
Rear Spring Assembly - Install (15 621 0)

17. Align the rear axle assembly.
