Thermostat - 1.4L PTE (CVH) > < Water Pump - 1.25L-1.4L Zetec-SE (Sigma)

Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
  1. Drain the cooling system.
    For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding in this section.

  1. Disconnect the radiator top hose and the pipe from the radiator to the expansion tank.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Remove the lower air deflector (if equipped).

  1. Disconnect the fan multiplug and unclip the wiring loom.

  1. Disconnect the multiplug if fitted.

  1. Detach the multiplug from the radiator support.

  1. Disconnect the lower radiator hoses.
Vehicles with automatic transmission

  1. Disconnect the lower radiator hose.

  1. Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler pipes from the transmission.
    • Drain the fluid into a suitable container.
    • Cap ends/openings to prevent ingress of dirt.
Vehicles with air conditioning

  1. Detach and secure the air conditioning condenser from the radiator.
All vehicles

  1. Support the radiator assembly and remove the four support retaining bolts (left-hand side shown).

  1. Remove the fan and radiator assembly complete.
  1. If the radiator is to be replaced, remove the fan/shroud assembly and the transmission fluid cooler and pipes if fitted.

Installation

All vehicles
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Refill the cooling system and check for leaks.
    For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding in this section.
Vehicles with automatic transmission
  1. Check and top up the transmission fluid as necessary.
