EXTERIOR LAMPS - Brake and Reverse Lamps

DESCRIPTION

The brake lamps illuminate when the ignition switch is in position ’II’ and the brake pedal is depressed. The reverse lamps illuminate when the ignition switch is in position ’II’ and the gear selector lever is in the reverse position.

OPERATION

Feed from the positive battery terminal is connected to the engine compartment fuse box (C1217-1) by a brown wire. Current passes through fusible link 5 (C570-2) and is connected to the ignition switch (C28-1) by a brown wire. When the ignition switch is in position ’II’, current flows across the switch (C90-1) to fuse 18 of the passenger compartment fuse box (C581-13) on a white wire.

Fuse 18 (C581-16) supplies a feed to both the brake pedal switch (C29-1) and the reverse lamp switch (C69-2), which are connected in parallel. Both are supplied on green wires.

Brake Lamps

When the brake pedal is depressed, the brake pedal switch closes and current flows across the switch. The brake pedal switch (C75-1) supplies a feed to:

  • The centre high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) (C832-1).
  • The trailer pick-up (C1146-1).
  • The RH brake lamp (C125-2).
  • The LH brake lamp (C121-2).

All 4 are connected in parallel and are supplied a feed on green/purple wires, and earthed on black wires.

Reverse Lamps

When reverse gear is selected, the reverse lamp switch is closed. Current flows across the switch (C69-3) to the RH reverse lamp (C455-1) on a green/brown wire. Current flows across the RH reverse lamp (C455-2) and onto the LH reverse lamp (C472-1), also on a green/brown wire. Both lamps are connected in series. The LH reverse lamp is earthed (C1190-1) is earthed on a black wire.
