Crank Inhibition/Engine Immobilization

The CCU will transmit a coded signal to the engine control module (ECM) when the ignition is switched to position II. If the coded signal does not correspond to the programmed code in the ECM, the ECM prevents the engine crank request and immobilizes the engine ignition circuits, rendering the engine inoperable.

Key and Remote Handset Locking

The vehicle can be locked and the alarm armed using either the vehicle key or the remote handset.

NOTE: The central door locking (CDL) switch, located on the centre of the facia, will lock/unlock the doors from inside the vehicle but will not arm the alarm.

Remote Handset

The remote handset transmits a coded radio signal when one of the two buttons is pressed. The signal from the handset is received by an alarm receiver and transmitted to the CCU. The alarm receiver is located at the top of the instrument pack.

The handset signals must be synchronized to the CCU. The synchronization will be lost if the power supply to the vehicle or the handset is lost. Synchronization can be reprogrammed by pressing the handset lock button five times in quick succession with the ignition off. Alternatively, the ignition can be switched to position II with the handset attached to the key ring, this will automatically reprogram the synchronization. This is achieved by means of a circular transponder antenna located around the outside diameter of the ignition switch. For this to happen, the transmitter must be within 70 mm of the ignition barrel.
