EDC/MEMS Alarm Interaction

The Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) and the Modular Engine Management System (MEMS) Electronic Control Modules (ECM’s) operate in a similar manner with regard to alarm system interaction. The ECM will not mobilize the engine electrics or initiate an engine crank signal until it has received a valid code from the CCU. If no signal code or the incorrect code is received, then the ECM will not grant engine crank or engine electrical operations.

Emergency Key Access (EKA)

The EKA feature permits a locked and armed vehicle to be unlocked and fully disarmed using the key. This feature is useful if the remote handset is not available or is inoperative.

When the vehicle has been locked using the key or the remote handset, unlocking and disarming of the alarm system is normally achieved by means of the remote handset. If the remote handset is not available or inoperative, access to the vehicle can be obtained by unlocking the drivers door with the vehicle key which initiates the EKA status. When the vehicle enters the EKA state, the following occurs:

  • The drivers door unlocks (other doors remain CDL locked)
  • The alarm LED continues to slow flash
  • Perimetric protection is suspended on all panels, except the bonnet
  • Engine immobilization and crank disable remain activated
  • Volumetric protection is deactivated.
