- Prepare wheel and tyre assembly and secure with wire as shown.
- Run wire out through centre of wheel and hold end of wire at least 5 metres (’A’) from tyres.
CAUTION: Check surrounding area is safe, ensure everyone is aware that the pre-tensioner is about to be triggered.
- Pull up pre-tensioner reel about 40 cm (’B’) and release the wire. The impact should trigger the pre-tensioner - indicated by a loud noise and smoke.
CAUTION: Wait 30 minutes for the unit to air cool.
NOTE: If the pre-tensioner did not trigger, check that the sensor lock was fully disengaged and the unit is suspended horizontally. Repeat triggering procedure.
Disposal
CAUTION: Wear a face shield and gloves when handing a triggered unit. Wash hands and rinse well after handling a triggered unit.
- Place seat belt pre-tensioner unit in a strong plastic bag and secure.
- Transport deployed airbag module to designated area for incineration in accordance with local regulations.
NOTE: DO NOT transport airbag module in the vehicle passenger compartment.
- Scrap all remaining parts of seat belt assembly. DO NOT re-use or salvage any parts.
WARNING: If pre-tensioner cannot be triggered, it should not be treated as normal scrap as it is still a potentially explosive device that can cause serious injury.
- Package seat belt pre-tensioner unit in exactly the same packaging a NEW unit came in.
- Mark outside of box ’DAMAGED SEAT BELT TENSIONER NOT TRIGGERED’ so it is clearly identifiable from other parts. UK ONLY: Return as a warranty item. NOT UK: Contact local authority for procedure on disposal of explosive substances.
