Installing the crankshaft adjusting crankshaft end play

INSTALLING THE CRANKSHAFT ADJUSTING CRANKSHAFT END PLAY

Carefully clean the gasket fact (A) and the tapped holes in the cylinder block. Oil and install both halves of the thrust bearing (1) on REINSTALL: main journal No. 2, on the cylinder block side.

• The piston crown oil spray jets, after coating the NOTE: The grooves should face the crankshaft. bolts with LOCTITE 243.
• The type B (colour code black) half shells on the Put the bearing in place and position the bolts. cylinder block side.
• Use smooth half shells on main journals 1-3-5 (on both cylinder block and bearing cap sides).
• Use grooved half shells on main journals 2-4 (on both cylinder block and bearing cap sides).

VERY IMPORTANT: Respect the proper position- ing of the half shells.

• Oil the bearings and the main journals.

Install the dial indicator at the end of the crankshaft, using dial indicator support tool 18G191.

Push the crankshaft until it stops.

Zero out the dial indicator.

Pull the crankshaft in the other direction.

Install the crankshaft. The end play should be from 0.07 to 0.27 mm.

VERY IMPORTANT: Install bearing caps 1-3-4-5, taking care to respect the choice of half shells.

Adjust the end play by changing the thrust bearing thickness.

Hand tighten the bearing cap bolts.
