Bleeding brake system
Bleeding brake system
  Caution
Please strictly follow the bleeding procedure of the brake system described in the present section.
  Note
t  Do not mix the brake fluid with liquids containing mineral oils (oil, petrol, detergents) for any reason. Mineral oils damage the seals and sleeves in the brake system.
t  The syphoned (used) brake fluid can not be re-used.
t  Only use original, unused brake fluid according to the standard US FMVSS 116 DOT 4, → Spare parts catalogue.
t  Brake fluid is poisonous. Also due to its corrosive effect brake fluid must not come into contact with paintwork.
t  Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs moisture from the ambient air and should therefore always be stored in air-tight containers.
t  Clean any spilled brake fluid with large amounts of water.
t  Observe environmental requirements for disposal.
t  The warning lamp of the brake system lights up steadily or blinks (depending on the version) if the brake liquid level is too low or if a fault is present in the ABS/ESP system or in the handbrake.
  WARNING
If the brake fluid is topped up with the brake bleeder -SAT 1175B-, take care that the filling pressure does not exceed the following values specified.
If the filling pressure given is exceeded, a change-over valve for EDS control with hydraulic increase prevents a complete purging of the areas specific to the EDS in the control unit of the brake system. In this case, complete bleeding of the brake system is not guaranteed.
Adjusting the pressure of the brake bleeder -SAT 1175B-
  Note
Consider the → operating instructions of the brake bleederSAT 1175B
Before proceeding with the bleeding tasks, adjust the pressure of the brake bleeder -SAT 1175B- according to the control unit of the brake system installed in the vehicle.
t  Mark 60 / Mark 70: 1 bar
  Caution
Only perform the pre-bleeding if one of the chambers of the brake liquid container is completely empty (e.g. if the brake system shows leaks or after replacing the control unit of the brake system).
If no chamber of the brake liquid container is empty, bleed the system directly according to the instructions in → Chapter.
