Replace vehicle identification plate  

The identification plate contains special information about paint quality and the vehicle colour.   The vehicle external colour is specified by either a 3-digit colour code or a 2-digit colour code, depending on the production plant, with the suffix "L" (internal code).   3-digit codes:       Letter "E" =   =   Enamel/synthetic resin paint   Letter "A" =   =   Acrylic paint   3-digit no.   =   Paint number         Example: E 474   =   synthetic resin coat, colour: Casablanca white     2-digit codes:   In general synthetic resin paint   2-digit no. = colour code     Example: 10L = colour: Casablanca white

  Important!   

This information refers to identification plates as of Model Year '96.   The development of environmentally compatible solid two-coat paints in all production plants has led to the introduction of the code letter "Z" or "Y" as paint information on the identification plate.   ""Z" = two-coat paint (solid two-coat, metallic, mineral effect). "Y" = single-coat.   Vehicles labelled with "Z" or "Y" are painted as before according to the familiar paint systems from the current "Paint Repair Systems" brochure.   Notice:  Paint vehicles labelled with "Z" according to the systems 2, 4, 6, 8. Paint vehicles labelled "Y" according to the systems 1, 3, 5, 7.   The Service Area will forward the "General Accessories" (Paint Overview) reference lists with two and three digit colour designations and colour codes on microfiche.

Notice: 

In the event of replacement, the "self-adhesive" vehicle identification plate is replaced by the familiar aluminium plate and as before fastened to the upper fixing holes in the air deflector panel.
