Steering Gear, Remove and Install > < Straight Ahead Position, Check/Adjust

Bellows on Steering Gear, Replace

  Remove

Remove front wheel.

If present: Remove lower engine compartment cover – for vehicles with diesel engine: see operation "Lower Engine Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in group "A".

Remove tie rod end – see operation "Tie Rod End, Replace".

Remove retaining clamp / retaining straps (1) and (2).

Remove bellows (3) from tie rod.

Pull bellows over tie rod and push onto steering gear. Ensure correct seating of the bellows in the grooves of the tie rod (1) and steering gear (2).

For vehicles with retaining clamp: Attach folding cover to steering gear using new retaining clamp and KM-J-22610 (3).

For vehicles with retaining strap: Attach folding cover to steering gear using new retaining strap – forcefully pull retaining strap closed and cut off excess.

Install bellows with new retaining band (4) on tie rod – ensure that bellows sit in tie rod grooves.

Installation of tie rod end – see operation "Tie Rod End, Remove and Install".

If present: Install lower engine compartment cover – for vehicles with diesel engine: see operation "Lower Engine Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in group "A".

Attach front wheel – tightening torque 110 Nm / 81 lbf. ft.

  Inspect

Check toe-in, and adjust if necessary – see operation "Chassis Alignment" and "Toe-in, Adjust" in group "E".
