1. Dome/courtesy lamps always illuminated

2. Dome/courtesy lamps do not illuminate

Circuit/System Description

Battery voltage for the courtesy lamps is supplied at all times to the body control module (BCM). When the BCM receives a signal to command the courtesy lamps ON, it then applies voltage through the dome/courtesy lamps control circuit to the courtesy lamps listed below if equipped:

•  Dome/reading lamps - front overhead console
•  Dome/reading lamps - front
•  Dome/reading lamps - middle

Circuit/System Verification

1. Observe the driver information center while opening and closing each vehicle door and the liftgate. The driver information center should display the door ajar/liftgate ajar message only when the door/liftgate is open.
If the driver information center displays the door ajar/liftgate ajar message when a door or the liftgate is closed, refer to Door Ajar Indicator Malfunction .
If the door ajar/liftgate is functioning normal, refer to Courtesy Lamp Circuit Malfunction.
2. Ignition ON, cycle the Dome/Reading Lamps switch in all positions, observe the scan tool Interior/Courtesy Lighting Master Switch parameter. The parameter should change between Cancel, On and Door.
If the parameter does not change, refer to Dome Lamp Switch Malfunction.

Circuit/System Testing

Courtesy Lamp Circuit Malfunction

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connectors at the appropriate inoperative component listed below:
  •  E37E Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console
  •  E37F Dome/Reading Lamps - Front
  •  E37M Dome/Reading Lamps - Middle
2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the C1 Battery.
3. Test for less than 5 Ω between appropriate ground circuit terminal listed below and ground:
  •  E37E Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console ground circuit terminal 6
  •  E37F Dome/Reading Lamps - Front ground circuit terminal 6
  •  E37M Dome/Reading Lamps - Middle ground circuit terminal 6
If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
4. Reconnect the negative terminal of the C1 Battery.
5. Connect a test lamp between the appropriate control circuit listed below and ground:
  •  E37E Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console ground circuit terminal 2
  •  E37F Dome/Reading Lamps - Front ground circuit terminal 2
  •  E37M Dome/Reading Lamps - Middle ground circuit terminal 2
6. Command the Courtesy Lamps Dimming ON and OFF with a scan tool.
If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
7. If all circuit test normal, test or replace the appropriate inoperative component.

Dome Lamp Switch Malfunction

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connectors at the appropriate inoperative component listed below:
  •  E37E Dome/Reading Lamps - Front Overhead Console
  •  E37F Dome/Reading Lamps - Front
2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the C1 Battery.
3. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 6 and ground.
If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
4. Reconnect the negative terminal to the C1 Battery
5. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Interior/Courtesy Lighting Master Switch parameter is Door.
If the scan tool Interior/Courtesy Lighting Master Switch parameter is Cancel, test the dome lamp cancel signal circuit terminal 4 for short circuit to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
If the scan tool Interior/Courtesy Lighting Master Switch parameter is On, test the dome lamp on signal circuit terminal 5 for short circuit to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
6. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the dome cancel signal circuit terminal 4 and the ground circuit terminal 6. Verify the scan tool Interior/Courtesy Lighting Master Switch parameter is Cancel.
If not the specified state, test the dome lamp cancel signal circuit for short circuit to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
7. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the dome lamp on signal circuit terminal 5 and the ground circuit terminal 6. Verify the scan tool Interior/Courtesy Lighting Master Switch parameter is On.
If not the specified state, test the dome lamp on signal circuit for short circuit to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
8. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the appropriate inoperative dome/reading lamps.
