Pre-delivery Inspection

The impression that the customer is given when his new vehicle is being handed over determines his attitude to the vehicle and the Opel / Vauxhall partner. It is therefore essential that the initial impression is as positive as possible.

Before starting to use a new vehicle, the Opel / Vauxhall partner must perform a Pre-delivery Inspection on the vehicle in accordance with the work plans defined in this publication.

Authorised Opel / Vauxhall dealers and service companies are referred to by the generic term Opel / Vauxhall Partner in the service booklet.

The checklists for Pre-delivery Inspection must be used to give the customer written confirmation that the specified work has been carried out properly and the vehicle is free of faults.

Only new vehicles without defects may be handed over to the customers. Any defects must be eliminated before final delivery.

Proper completion of the Pre-delivery Inspection will be confirmed for the customer by stamping and signing the "Pre-delivery Inspection and Vehicle Handover" form in the Service Booklet.

Please perform all the work contained in the Pre-delivery Inspection conscientiously so that the new vehicle does not suffer a breakdown, for example because of loose battery cables.

Please comply with the circular on product repair measures.

Please ensure that corresponding new vehicles which are still at your premises are not supplied to the end user without the relevant examination.

The work on the vehicle must be undertaken free of charge for the customer.

You will find corresponding work instructions for these product repair measures and any further information in the relevant documents.

To reach the work texts and technical data in TIS, click on the hand symbol next to the work stage required in the Standard Information section.

Checklists for Pre-delivery Inspection

The checklists are designed to enable the work to be carried out efficiently. It is absolutely imperative that you use the checklists.

Vehicle-specific checklists can be found in the TIS application time allowances, group "S" (inspection, service, care and maintenance), sub-directory Pre-delivery Inspection - Technical Check. You will see a coloured ICON in the menu bar, designated "Inspection checklist display" or "Service checklist"; click on this to display the checklists provided you have selected the corresponding work operation number.

factory directive

You must use the vehicle-specific checklists from TIS to guarantee that the Pre-delivery Inspection is carried out according to the factory directive. If the work is not carried out according to the factory directive and damage is caused as a result, the Opel Partner shall be responsible for the resulting costs.

Stored vehicles

Demonstration vehicles (new vehicles) may require an engine oil change depending on the time spent in the showrooms.

  • If displaying vehicles with interval display (petrol turbo engines and diesel with DPF) in a showroom for up to six months (air conditioned), you will only need to reset instrumentation.
  • No reset is needed with layup times of between six months and 1 year because the long layup time may reduce the interval for the customer. The control unit calculates 1,000 km for every 3 weeks.
  • An engine oil change, an engine oil filter change and a reset must take place with layup times exceeding 1 year.

We recommend using a similar procedure for used cars.

If longer standing times occur:

Tyres

  • If the vehicle is parked with tyre pressure that is too low, a flat spot forms that causes vibration when driving and makes the wheel difficult to balance. If the vehicle is to be stored, the tyres must be inflated with 3.5 bar of compressed air.
  • The correct tyre pressure must be maintained on delivery/hand-over to the customer. As of model year 2009, the tyre pressures and other data on wheels and tyres are given exclusively on TIS in the publication "Wheels and Tyres as of Model Year 2011" .
  • For all ECOflex models, the recommended ECO tyre pressure must be set without fail. This is the only way of achieving the specified consumption and CO 2 values.

Starter battery

  • If an Opel / Vauxhall passenger vehicle is parked for more than 4 weeks, the starter battery may become discharged if the transport safety system has not been activated.
  • This can shorten the life of the starter battery. Therefore disconnect the battery from the on-board supply by disconnecting the negative pole. Only work on the battery when the ignition is switched off. After connecting the battery, it is necessary to set the date and time in the info-display, activate the window electronics, program the sliding sun roof, the CIM, ESP and security code.

Important:   Before handing over to the customer, it is essential to ensure that the battery clamps are connected securely!

After relatively long standing times

Vehicle with air conditioning

  • Open all air outlet flaps on the instrument panel.
  • Start vehicle engine and allow idling to stabilise (approx. 5 seconds).
  • Switch blower to maximum power.
  • Switch on air conditioning and allow to run for at least 2 minutes without interruption at an engine speed below 1,500 rpm.

In this way, damage to air conditioning compressors during a test drive can be avoided after relatively long standing times.

Drain water from fuel filter

  • The external filter must be checked for water residue prior to delivery for vehicles with longer layup times, particularly those with little fuel in the tank.

Fuel deficiency

Petrol

  • If the fuel level drops, the in-tank pump is drawing in air and the engine will stall. As a consequence of a safety circuit, as soon as the engine stalls and the control unit therefore no longer receives a speed signal, the pump switches off. This safety circuit is included in all injection systems for petrol engines. Even repeated attempts to start the car (3 to 4 times) will therefore not lead to damage to the fuel pump.

Note:   Lack of fuel is not a possible cause of pump failures.

Diesel

  • In general, the pump system of diesel engines is not damaged by lack of fuel and repeated attempts to start the vehicle.

Exception: DI-engines

  • The tank of DI diesel-engined vehicles must not be run dry. Refuel as soon as possible when the tank warning light goes on, immediately if it is flashing.
  • The DI-fuel system is bled using a bleeder unit KM-948 .

Note:   Please follow the relevant work instructions.

SVS-light illuminated on the Z 19 DT, Z 19 DTH

If the SVS-light is illuminated on the Z 19 DT, Z 19 DTH and no trouble code is stored, the fuel filter probably requires draining.

General Notes

  • Clean air filter (pollen filter) and air conditioning system

If the efficiency of the air conditioning system is deteriorating, it must be pointed out to the customer that the air cleaner (pollen filter) needs changing.

It may be necessary to change the clean air filter (pollen filter) more often in countries and areas with a very high proportion of dust in the air. The filter should be changed at least once a year in these cases.

  • Drain water from fuel filter

In countries and areas with high humidity and/or if low grade fuel is used, it can be necessary to drain the water from the diesel fuel filter more frequently.

Note:   When the vehicle has been driven until the tank is empty the vehicle can be started without going to an authorised dealer's garage.

After filling the tank, the ignition should be switched on once or twice for 40 seconds (important for Z 13 DTH, Z 13 DTJ, Z 19 DT, Z 19 DTH because of the pre-feed pump).

The customer must not start the vehicle for more than 40 seconds and should repeat this at 5 second intervals.

It is only necessary to go to an authorised dealership if the above measures do not enable the vehicle to start.

The additional instructions which follow, continue to be valid:

  • Never run the tank dry!
  • If the indicator light goes on, refuel as soon as possible, immediately if it is flashing.

Tyre Pressure Values and other Wheel and Tyre Information

The tyre pressures and other information on wheels and tyres as of MY 2009 are given only on TIS in the publication "Wheels and tyres as of MY 2011" .

Customer Information - Engine Oil Grade

On vehicle hand-over, the customer must be informed that the prescribed engine oil grades must be used, operation stage 4.3. If travelling abroad, the customer should be advised to buy a top-up bottle of the correct specification.

Protective measures to avoid damage to the vehicle

Before starting work, fit all necessary protective covers and remove these again before returning the vehicle to the customer. Normal protective measures are:

  • Wing protectors
  • Front cover
  • Seat covers
  • Steering wheel cover
  • Carpet/mat covers
  • Protective cover.
