Tie Rod, Remove and Install  

Object Number: 616191  Size: DEFAULT  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove steering gear - see operation "Steering Gear, Remove and Install".  

Object Number: 616197  Size: DEFAULT  Measure   

Measure exposed thread length (2).  

Object Number: 616191  Size: DEFAULT  Remove, Disconnect   

Release lock nut and remove tie rod end from tie rod.  

Open retaining bands and remove bellows (3) from tie rod. Remove tie rod with axial joint from rack.

Object Number: 616192  Size: DEFAULT  Install, Connect   

For Servotronic steering version: install tie rod with axial joint (1) to rack - tightening torque 80 ± 8 Nm / 59 ± 6 lbf. ft. 1) .  

For Saginaw steering version: install tie rod with axial joint (1) to rack - tightening torque 100 Nm / 74 lbf. ft. 1)  

Install bellows with new retaining straps - ensure that bellows sit in tie rod grooves.  

Install tie rod end on tie rod and counterhold with nut - tightening torque 60 Nm / 44 lbf. ft. Note pre-measured exposed thread length.  

Install steering gear - see operation "Steering Gear, Remove and Install".  

Object Number: 616198  Size: DEFAULT  Adjust   

Check toe-in, and adjust if necessary - see operation "Camber, Caster and Toe-in, Check" in group "E".  

1)  Re-cut rack thread and coat with screw locking compound (red).
