BRAKE FLUID LEAKS

A brake fluid leak can be seen

Results of the tests
0PRELIMINARY CHECKSAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

First of all check whether the problem is accompanied by poor braking action

Visually check the level of the brake fluid in the reservoir

Op. 0010T64 BRAKE AND/OR CLUTCH FLUID CHECK LEVEL AND TOP UP AS NECESSARY

Move on to Step 1

1. Poor braking action detected

2. Insufficient brake fluid level

1. Proceed as instructed

See table F001 POOR BRAKING ACTION

2. Restore the correct level and carry out a road test.

Op. 0010T64 BRAKE AND/OR CLUTCH FLUID CHECK LEVEL AND TOP UP AS NECESSARY

If the fault persists, move on to Step 1

1RESERVOIR LEAK CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

For 1.9 JTD;

Check visually for fluid leaks from the reservoir and pipes

Move on to Step 2Leaks from tank

Replace the tank

Op. 3330C30 BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR - R + R AND WASH INSIDE

2PUMP LEAK CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

For 1.9 JTD;

Visually check for fluid leaks from the brake pump and fittings

Move on to Step 3

1. Leaks from pump/ABS control unit area fittings

2. Leaks from pump

1. Tighten the connectors or replace the damaged parts

2. Replace the brake servo assembly

3FLEXIBLE PIPES CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

For 1.9 JTD;

Visually check for leaks from hoses

Move on to Step 4

1. Leaks from fittings or deterioration of hose to front brakes

2. Leaks from fittings or deterioration of hose to rear brakes

1. Tighten the fittings or replace the pipe

Op. 3340B10 HOSE TO L/H OR R/H FRONT BRAKES (ONE) - R+R

2. Tighten the fittings or replace the pipe

Op. 3340B30 HOSE TO L/H OR R/H REAR BRAKES (ONE) - R+R

4RIGID PIPE CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

For 1.9 JTD;

Visually check for leaks from rigid underbody pipes

End of diagnosisLeaks from fittings or damage to rigid pipesTighten the fittings or replace the rigid pipes
5CHECK FOR OIL LEAKS FROM THE CONNECTIONAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

For 1.2 8v, 1.4 8v, 1.3 JTD;

Position the vehicle on a two column lift and raise it.

Check that the oil leak is not from the connection

Move on to Step 9Presence of oil leak from the connectionMove on to Step 6
6CHECK BUNDY PIPE COUPLINGAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

For 1.2 8v, 1.4 8v, 1.3 JTD;

Check that the oil leak is not from the Bundy pipe coupling

End of diagnosisOil leaksMove on to Step 7
7REMOVING BUNDY PIPE FROM THE CYLINDERAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

For 1.2 8v, 1.4 8v, 1.3 JTD;

After removing the pipe from the cylinder, check visually whether one or more of the following conditions are not compliant:

- end of Bundy pipe deformed;

- scoring;

- breaks

Move on to Step 8

1. End of Bundy pipe coupling deformed

2. Scoring

3. Breaks

1. Replace Bundy pipe coupling

2. Replace Bundy pipe coupling

3. Replace Bundy pipe coupling

8CHECK FOR NON-COMPLIANCE OF THE SEALING CONE AND/OR THREADSAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

For 1.2 8v, 1.4 8v, 1.3 JTD;

Check visually for non-compliance of the sealing cone and/or thread

Move on to Step 9Presence of non-compliance on sealing cone and/or thread

Replacing the cylinder

Op. 3320B20 REAR BRAKE SHOE CYLINDER (ONE) LEFT OR RIGHT - REPLACE.

9CHECKS ON DRUMAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

For 1.2 8v, 1.4 8v, 1.3 JTD;

Remove the drum and check for oil:

- on the plate or other component;

- whether the cylinder gaiters are wet

End of diagnosis

1. Presence of oil on the plate or on another component

2. Presence of oil on the cylinder gaiters

1. Replacing the cylinder

Op. 3320B20 REAR BRAKE SHOE CYLINDER (ONE) LEFT OR RIGHT - REPLACE.
