DRIFT WHILST BRAKING

The vehicle tends to drift to the left or the right whilst braking. If necessary, carry out a road test on a straight, flat road without transverse gradients to check the effective drift

Results of the tests
0PRELIMINARY CHECKSAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

First of all, check that the tyres are the correct type, in good condition and correctly inflated.

Check that the wheel bolts are correctly fastened

Move on to Step 1

1. Tyre inflation pressure not correct

2. Tyres unsuitable or worn

3. Wheel bolts not correctly tightened

1. Make sure tyres are inflated to the correct pressure

2. Replace the tyres

3. Tighten the wheel bolts to the correct torque

1BRAKING SURFACES CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Check:

- the condition of the front pads braking surfaces;

- the condition of the rear pads braking surfaces

Move on to Step 2

1. Brake surfaces vitrified or with traces of grease, oil or water

2. Front pads damaged or not the recommended type

3. Rear pads damaged or not the recommended type

1. Clean again, check and remove the causes of the fault

2. Replace the front pads

Op. 3310A60 FRONT BRAKE PADS - REPLACE

3. Replace the rear pads

Op. 3310B62 REAR BRAKE PADS - REPLACE

2FRONT DISCS AND CALIPERS CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Check the condition of the front brake discs

Check the condition of the front brake caliper pistons

Move on to Step 3

1. Front discs worn or damaged

2. Front caliper pistons worn or seized.

1. Replace the front discs

Op. 3310A48 FRONT BRAKE DISC (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT - R.R

2. Replace the front brake calipers

Op. 3310A30 FRONT BRAKE CALIPER (ONE) - R.R

3REAR DISCS AND CALIPERS CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Check the condition of the rear brake discs.

Check the condition of the rear brake caliper pistons

Move on to Step 4

1. Rear discs worn or damaged.

2. Rear caliper pistons worn or seized

1. Replace the rear discs

Op. 3310B48 REAR BRAKE DISC (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT - R.R.

2. Replace the rear brake calipers

Op. 3310B36 REAR BRAKE CALIPER (ONE), LEFT OR RIGHT - R.R

4CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Connect the Examiner diagnostic equipment to the diagnostic socket.

Check that there are no faults in the ABS control unit

Move on to Step 5

1. Error detected in the control unit

2. No communication with the control unit

1. Continue following the instructions for the diagnostic equipment

2. Restore connection between the ABS control unit and the diagnostic connector

See E7020 ABS

5ACTIVE DIAGNOSIS WITH DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Keeping the Examiner diagnostic equipment connected carry out the active diagnosis of:

- pump motor;

- solenoid valves

Move on to Step 6Pump and/or solenoid valves faulty

Replace the ABS electronic control unit electrohydraulic unit

Op. 3340A12 ABS HYDRAULIC AND ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT - R.R.

6FRONT GEOMETRY CHECKAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Check the vehicle geometry and front wheel angles

Op. 4450A10 FRONT WHEEL GEOMETRY - CHECK USING OPTICAL EQUIPMENT - INCLUDES ADJUSTMENT IF NECESSARY

Move on to Step 7

1. Geometry not correct

2. Geometry not correct

3. Angles not correct

1. Check and, if necessary, replace the shock absorber

Op. 4410A12 FRONT SUSPENSION DAMPER (ONE), LH OR RH - FOR MCPHERSON STRUT SYSTEM - INCLUDES DISMANTLING/REASSEMBLY OF ASSEMBLY AT BENCH - R.R

2. Check and, if necessary, replace the spring
