OPERATIONS
1080A52 - EXHAUST GAS TEST - CHECK WITH SPECIAL EQUIPMENT AT END OF EXHAUST
- Start up the engine and bring it to running temperature.
- Check that the engine idle speed is correct .
- Switch off the engine.
- Insert a suitably set CO-tester sensor into the end of the exhaust pipe penetrating at least 30 cm.
Note: If the shape of the end part of the exhaust pipe does not permit complete insertion of the sensor, add a suitable extension pipe that maintains the seal at the connection.
- Start up the engine.
- Check that the concentration of CO (carbon oxide) when idling is within the specified value
| Measure | Value |
| - CO (%) | ≤ 0.35 |
- Check that the concentration of HC (unburnt hydrocarbons) when idling is within the specified value
| Measure | Value |
| - HC (p.p.m.) | ≤ 90 |
Note: If the HC value is not within the specified value whilst that read before the catalyzer is correct, the engine parameters are to be considered correct and therefore the cause of the fault is to be found in the decreased efficiency of the catalytic converter.
- Check that the concentration of CO2 (carbon dioxide) when idling is within the specified value
| Measure | Value |
| - CO2 (%) | ≥ 13 |
- Switch off the engine.
- Take out the CO-tester sensor from the end of the exhaust pipe.
1080A54 - EXHAUST GAS TEST - CHECK WITH SPECIAL EQUIPMENT FROM INTAKE TO CATALYTIC CONVERTER
- Place the car on a hoist and raise it.
- Unscrew the exhaust pipe cap.
- Screw the equipment into the cap seat
- Connect a suitably set CO-tester sensor to the equipment.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Start up the engine and bring it to running temperature.
- Check that the engine idle speed is correct .
- Check that the concentration of CO (carbon oxide) when idling is within the specified value
| Measure | Value |
| - CO (%) | 0.4 - 1 |
- Check that the concentration of HC (unburnt hydrocarbons) when idling is within the specified value
| Measure | Value |
| - HC (p.p.m.) | ≤ 600 |
- Check that the concentration of CO2 (carbon dioxide) when idling is within the specified value
| Measure | Value |
| - CO2 (%) | ≥ 12 |
- Switch off the engine.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Disconnect the CO-tester sensor from the equipment.
- Unscrew the equipment from the cap seat
