Fitting the timing belt

The timing belt must be fitted with the arrows pointing in the direction of rotation of the engine.

1. Connect tool (1a) to tool (1b) using the bolt.

2. Place the tool on the timig belt moving tensioner (2a) and tighten the bolt on the balljoint (2b).

Note: The top of the tool must be horizontal.

3. Position the weight, without the knurled part, on the rod with millimetre graduations at a distance of 80 mm and lock it.
4. Bed in the belt with two revolutions of the crankshaft in its direction of rotation.

Note: If the millimetre-graduated rod moves during the operation, undo the balljoint on the tool and return it to the horizontal position. Then repeat the operation.

4. Tighten the nut on the moving tensioner to torque.

• Fit the timing gear bottom cover.

Before fitting the timing gear covers, check that the timing reference marks on the drive pulley and driven pulley line up.

• Fit the air conditioner compressor drive belt on the crankshaft pulley.
• Fit the crankshaft pulley and tighten the bolts to torque.

• Refit the air conditioner compressor drive belt.
• Tension the air conditioner compressor belt and tighten the tensioner bolt to torque.

• Check the tension of the air conditioner compressor belt using the tool.

• Fit the timing gear top guard.
• Fit the wiring on the timing gear top guard.
• Refit the engine coolant reservoir and tighten the fixing bolts.

• See Op. 4450B10 Front or rear wheel (one) - r+r
• Connect the negative (-) battery terminal.
