C02 Difficult or noisy gear engagement/disengagement

It is sometimes difficult to engage gears. A noise can also be heard (scraping).

1 CHECK THE CLUTCH Check the clutch disengages correctly: start the engine, press the clutch pedal and engage a gear. The problem does not re-occur:
Go to Step 2		 The gear always scrapes (all gears): the clutch sticks. Proceed as described in table E01
2 CHECKING GEAR SELECTION Check the gear selection ball springs are not broken. Go to Step 3 Damaged springs or balls Replace the relevant parts OP. PROCEDURE 2110B10
3 CHECK SYNCHRONISERS Overhaul the gearbox (OP. PROCEDURE 2110B32). Check the synchroniser rings, in particular: the inner surface of the rings should not be worn. Go to Step 4 Worn synchronisers Replace the synchronisers OP. PROCEDURE 2110B32
4 CHECK GEARS Overhaul the gearbox (OP. PROCEDURE 2110B32). Check the gear front teeth, in particular: they should not be nicked or excessively worn. Go to Step 5 Worn gears Replace the relevant gears OP. PROCEDURE 2110B32
5 CHECK HUBS AND SLIDING SLEEVES Overhaul the gearbox(OP. PROCEDURE 2110B32). Check the hubs and sliding sleeves, in particular:
  • they should not be nicked, worn or subject to excessive play
  • they should slide freely.
 Go to Step 6 Worn sleeves or hubs Replace the relevant hubs and sleeves OP. PROCEDURE 2110B32
6 CHECK CORRECT OPERATION Check the fault is no longer present. End of test – –
