Airbag fault warning light on

When the engine is started, the “airbag fault” warning light comes on and stays on for longer than 4 seconds (after running the ECU initial test, the warning light should come off)

In the event of a particularly severe crash which caused complete activation of the system (airbag and pretensioners) the light stays on. As erasure from the ECU is not possible, replace the latter.

If only the pretensioners were activated, the memory may be erased using the diagnostic tools (Examiner of other tools) twice. In this case, the “airbag fault” warning light goes out. The ECU must be replaced only when activated for the third time.

1 CHECK WITH DIAGNOSTIC TOOL Connect diagnostic tool (Examiner or other tools) to the diagnostic socket.

– no errors in the airbag ECU

Go to Step 2 Error detected in ECU Restore:
– connection between airbag ECU and diagnostic socket

2 CHECK ELECTRIC CIRCUIT NOTE The “airbag” warning light is fitted with a special internal drive unit that checks correct connection between the warning light itself and the ECU. Therefore, check connection between airbag ECU and instrument panel.

3 CHECK CORRECT OPERATION Check the fault is no longer present All OK Fault persists Seek the fault starting from another symptom. Check and, if required, replace airbag ECU
