NAVIGATOR DESCRIPTION

Description

The road map navigation system (satellite navigator) makes it possible, at any given moment, to know the exact position of the vehicle in relation to the urban and out of town road network, shown on the display.

The satellite navigator is also incorporated in the radio-telephone-navigator integrated in the info-telematic control unit.

The system also provides additional information concerning services of general interest (hotels, car parks, restaurants, pharmacies, service stations, train stations, hospitals, workshops, airports, etc.).

The driver is guided to their pre-defined destination by means of a series of visual and auditory information.

The navigation system uses GPS satellite location technology (Global Position System) and includes the following functions:

  • location of the vehicle;
  • calculation of the route;
  • identification of route guidance manoeuvres;
  • management of map data base on CD ROM;
  • map display;
  • sending voice messages;
  • receiving traffic information from GSM or RDS/TMC service provider

The GPS consists of an aerial which allows the satellite location of the vehicle. (The same aerial also acts as the GSM aerial).

See E3570 INTEGRATED RADIO PHONE

The aerial is connected, via a coaxial cable, to the info-telematic control unit.

The position of the vehicle is identified through the analysis of the GPS data and the speedometer and reverse gear signals which come from the vehicle. The calculation time is less than 10 seconds.

The navigation commands, shown on the navigator display, are then repeated on the instrument panel.

This position is then shown on the navigator display together with the topological features of the area memorized on the map CD ROM.

The navigator also produces a voice summary which allows the driver to receive instructions via the audio circuit.

Depending on the language selected, the navigator provides voice instructions, with the possibility of hearing them whilst listening to the HI FI (automatic mute function).

It is possible to configure the entire system through the menù which can be programmed using the control buttons located near the screen, in particular as far as the units of measurement and the language to be used at the time of navigation are concerned.

There are also controls on the steering wheel and the navigator can also be operated through a voice recognition system by means of the microphone installed in the front courtesy light.

The integrated radio-telephone-navigator system is a node of the CAN, through which information is exchanged with the Body Computer and the other electronic control units fitted on the vehicle (in the case, for example, of acquiring the vehicle speed, reverse gear signal, etc.).

The system only works with the key in the INT position.
