FAULT FINDING

General

Prior to carrying out fault finding, the gearbox oil must be checked/topped-up to the correct level. When carrying out road test, this should be done on a dry, well surfaced road.

WARNING: Always observe speed limits and local traffic regulations. Always clean the area around inspection plugs prior to their removal for carrying out presure testing. When carrying out certain checks with the vehicle supported on stands, the road wheels will be rotating. Always ensure personnel are aware of this and take all necessary precautions to avoid accidents.

GEARBOX OIL LEVEL

Check/top-up

CAUTION: Vehicle must be on level surface with engine and gearbox at normal operating temperature.

  1. Switch off engine.
  2. Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean, lint-free cloth.
  3. Insert dipstick and immediately withdraw it.
  4. Check oil level which must be between HIGH and LOW marks.
  5. Top-up if necessary using recommended oil until level is to HIGH mark on dipstick.
