MODULATOR FLUID

CAUTION: Do not spill brake fluid it may damage painted surfaces, wash it off immediately with water.

Do not reuse drained brake fluid.

DO NOT loosen the relief plug on the accumulator.

Release fluid pressure

Diagram showing a hand using a tube to bleed fluid from the modulator unit into a container. Callouts A, B, C, D identify components. Torque value 11 Nm is indicated near callout B. Figure number 70M0408.
  1. Modulator unit
  2. Bleed screw
  3. Bleed screw cap
  4. Reservoir filler cap
  5. Remove bleed screw cap and place ring spanner over bleed screw.
  6. Connect bleed tube to the bleed screw.
  7. While holding bleed tube in container, slowly loosen bleed screw ¼ turn and collect brake fluid in container.

CAUTION: Do not over loosen bleed screw, release high pressure fluid gradually.

  1. Tighten bleed screw to specified torque.

Bleeding

When the brake fluid is completely drained from the reservoir, air enters the modulator unit.

Diagram of the ABS fluid reservoir showing fill level indicators. Callouts A, B, C, D point to reservoir, filler cap, MAX line, and MIN line respectively. Figure number 70M0409.
  1. ABS fluid reservoir
  2. Reservoir filler cap
  3. MAX level line
  4. MIN level line
  5. Remove filler cap and refill reservoir to MAX level with DOT 4 brake fluid.

Note: Pour slowly and wait for foam to disperse.

  1. Remove bleed screw cap and place ring spanner over bleed screw.
  2. Connect bleed tube to the bleed screw with other end in container.
  3. Loosen bleed screw ½ turn, start engine and idle.
  4. Tighten the bleed when fluid starts to flow from bleed tube. Remove bleed tube and fit bleed screw cap.
  5. Stop engine after the pump motor stops.
  6. Check the brake fluid level in reservoir, top – up to MAX level line.
