Removing and installing steering gear > < Steering without servo unit (mechanical steering)

  Note
t  If the front axle is damaged as a result of an accident certain steering components must be replaced → Chapter
t  Repairs on the steering gear are not foreseen. If there is a complaint about the steering gear, it must be replaced.
t  Replace the self-locking screws and nuts.
t  Welding and straightening of the steering components is not allowed.
t  Only use steering gear grease, spare part number → Chapter
1 - Universal joint
q   of steering column
2 - Screw, 20 Nm + 90°
q   replace after each removal
3 - Self-locking hexagon nut, 20 Nm + 90°
q   replace after each removal
4 - Steering-knuckle arm (of the wheel-bearing housing)
5 - Steering gear
6 - Assembly carrier
q   with impression (as shown in Figure), only if the front exhaust pipe is fitted below the engine-gearbox assembly carrier
q   with impression (not shown), only if the front exhaust pipe is fitted below the engine-gearbox assembly carrier
7 - Pendulum support
q   The shape of the hinged bracket depends on the gearbox
8 - Screw, 50 Nm + 90°
q   replace after each removal
