Assembly overview - power steering box (TRW)
In the event of power steering malfunctions → Fault finding No. 10 Running gear.
  Note
t  Renew self-locking nuts and bolts.
t  Welding and straightening work on steering components is not permitted.
t  Use only steering box grease -A0F 063 000 04- for greasing steering rack.
t  Fluid type: hydraulic fluid -G 002 000-.
t  Fluid capacity in system: 0.7 ... 0.9 l.
t  Routing of suction and pressure line hoses → Chapter.
1 - Self-locking hexagon nut, 35 Nm
2 - Self-locking hexagon nut, 30 Nm
3 - Clamp
4 - Rubber bush
q   Inner diameter ZF: 50 mm TRW: 44 mm.
5 - Right track rod
q   70 Nm
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   Wheel alignment → Chapter.
q   Diameter of ball joint on seat for bellows ZF: 15 mm Ø TRW: 12.7 mm Ø.
q   Must not be installed on a ZF power steering box.
6 - Left track rod
q   70 Nm
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   Adjusting to length → Chapter.
q   Diameter of ball joint on seat for bellows ZF: 15 mm Ø TRW: 12.7 mm Ø.
q   Must not be installed on a ZF power steering box.
7 - Hexagon nut, 50 Nm
8 - Boot
q   Pull on and off over track rod.
q   Can be renewed with steering box installed.
q   Must not be twisted after adjusting toe.
q   Must not be installed on a ZF power steering box.
9 - Steering box
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   Adjusting → Chapter.
q   Checking steering torque → Fault finding Running gear No. 16.
q   Disposal of steering box → Special Information Running gear No. 2.
q   Steering box with reduced steering torque, only for vehicles up to 85 kW.
q   16V and VR6 vehicles have a higher steering torque of approx. 2 Nm.
10 - Track rod ball joint
q   Pressing off → Anchor.
q   Checking:
q   Modification: → Chapter → Booklet27.
11 - Hexagon nut, 30 Nm
12 - Drive shaft
13 - Threaded connection, 30 Nm
q   Return line.
14 - O-ring
q   Renew.
15 - Clamp
q   Renew - open with pincers.
q   Tightening → Chapter.
