Removing and installing handbrake cable
Removing and installing handbrake cable
Removing
Depending on equipment in vehicle, remove centre armrest → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
–  Remove cup holder or ashtray → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
–  Remove cover above compensator → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
–  Release handbrake.
   
–  Slacken off adjustment nut -3- until handbrake cables can be disengaged from compensator -4-.
–  Disengage handbrake cables from compensator.
–  Raise vehicle.
–  Press down brake lever at brake caliper -arrow- and unhook handbrake cable.

–  Compress locking lugs -arrows- and pull handbrake cable out of bracket on brake caliper.
–  Unhook handbrake cable from brackets on underbody.
–  Unclip handbrake cable from brackets on underbody.
–  Detach floor trim.
–  Press floor trim down slightly.
  Note
This gives access to the guide tubes for the handbrake cables.
–  Pull handbrake cable out of guide tube.
Installing
–  Press floor trim down slightly.
  Note
This gives access to the guide tubes for the handbrake cables.
–  Slide handbrake cable into guide tube on underbody.

–  Push handbrake cable through bracket on brake caliper until both locking lugs -arrows- engage.
–  Push brake lever in direction of -arrow- and attach handbrake cable onto brake lever.
–  Secure floor trim.
–  Clip handbrake cable into brackets on underbody.
–  Hook handbrake cable into brackets on underbody.
–  Lower vehicle.
  N46-10192
–  Pull handbrake cables out of guide tubes -9 and 10-.
–  Hook handbrake cables into compensator -4-.
  Note
Make sure that rubber grommets -8- are still fitted.
–  Pre-tension handbrake cables using adjustment nut.
  Note
Pull up the handbrake lever several times to seat the handbrake cables in the correct position in the compensator.
–  Adjust handbrake → Chapter.
–  Install cover above compensator → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
–  Install cup holder or ashtray → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
Depending on equipment in vehicle, install centre armrest → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
  Caution
Make sure that the brakes work properly before the vehicle is driven on the road.
