CLIMATE CONTROL NOT WORKING (UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES)

Automatic air conditioning

When the on/off switch is pressed, the climate control does not work.

Test results
0PRELIMINARY CHECKSAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Check:

- the condition of climate control system protective fuses

- Correct operation of relay

See E6020 AIR CONDITIONING

- that the climate control system gas pressure is correct (exhaust system condition)

See Test 5040OB AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK (PRESSURE)

Move on to Step 1

1. Fuses blown

2. Relay damaged

3. Gas pressure too low (exhaust system)

1. Change the blown fuses

2. Replace the relay

3. Search for and eliminate leaks and top up climate control system to correct level

1CHECK ON OPERATION OF COMPRESSOR BY CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM CONTROL UNITAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
Check the following conditions: with the ambient temperature at least 5 °C and the outside temperature reading above 5 °C. With the engine started and the compressor on (check that the snowflake symbol in the display lights up), set the control unit to the AUTO position, the temperature to maximum cold LO and the distribution to the front position. Also check that there are no short circuits to earth for the compressor circuit or any errors on the CAN line by connecting the diagnostic equipment. In these conditions, check that the compressor comes on by opening the bonnet and taking a look.End of diagnosis

1. The snowflake symbol in the display does not light up (but the compressor is on)

2. The LED with the snowflake symbol comes on (but the compressor does not switch on)

3. The outside temperature reading is incorrect

4. Compressor short circuit

5. Errors on CAN line

1. Climate control system control unit replacement

Op. 5040D14 CONTROL UNIT WITH AUTOMATIC AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL PANEL - R.R.

2. Move on to Step 2

3. Move on to Step 3

4. Move on to Step 3

5. Move on to Step 4

2CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Keeping the diagnostic equipment connected check that there are no errors:

- at the climate control node;

- at the engine management control unit

Move on to Step 3

1. Climate control node not working

2. The engine management control unit does not give the go ahead

1. Move on to Step 4

2. Continue as described by the diagnostic equipment

3CHECK USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENTAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Keeping the diagnostic equipment connected, check the following at the Climate Control Node:

- that there are no errors at the compressor operating relay

- that there are no errors at the climate control system pressure sensor

- that there are no faults in the outside temperature sensor

- the condition of the compressor operating wiring (no short circuits or open circuits).

Keeping the diagnostic equipment connected, enter active diagnosis and check that all the graphic symbols in the display come on following the Autotest procedure

Move on to Step 5

1. Relay not working

2. Error at the linear sensor

3. Error (short circuit or open circuit) at the outside temperature sensor

4. Error at the outside temperature sensor

5. Compressor wiring broken

6. The snowflake symbol in the display does not light up in the display (but the compressor is on)

1. Replace the relay T17 (it is the last at the front in the direction of travel of the vehicle) on the right side.

See Test 5040BC CLIMATE CONTROL COMPRESSOR LINEAR SENSOR ON/OFF CHECK

3. Restore the correct wiring for the outside temperature sensor

See E6020 AIR CONDITIONING

4. Replace the outside temperature sensor

5. Restore the connection

See E6021 COMPRESSOR ENGAGEMENT

6. Replace the climate control system control unit

Op. 5040D14 CONTROL UNIT WITH AUTOMATIC AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL PANEL - R.R.

4CHECK ON CLIMATE CONTROL NODE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONSAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

With the engine switched off, remove the control from the dashboard support and disconnect the cables connector from the control unit visually inspecting for any damage at the connector contacts and reconnect it correctly for check for any false contacts

Op. 5040D14 CONTROL UNIT WITH AUTOMATIC AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL PANEL - R.R.

Move on to Step 5

1. Electrical connections loose or damaged

2. The electrical connections are not loose

1. Restore the loose or damaged electrical connections

See E6020 AIR CONDITIONING

2. Replace the climate control system control unit

Op. 5040D14 CONTROL UNIT WITH AUTOMATIC AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL PANEL - R.R.

5CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATION OF FAN BY CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM CONTROL UNITAll OKProblems encounteredOperation
With the engine started, set the climate control system control unit to the AUTO position, adjust the temperature to 22 °C, place the recirculation at the outside air intake and the distribution to the front position. Adjust the fan button (+ side) gradually increasing the speed set and then decrease the speed using the button (- side), thereby checking the effect of the air flow rate variationEnd of diagnosisThere is no change in the air flow rate at the ventsMove on to Step 6
6CHECK ON ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS AND FAN OPERATIONAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Check whether the electrical wiring connections are loose.

Disconnect/reconnect the connection to the motor mounting.

Disconnect the connector and connect to a feeder (12 V DC).

In these conditions the motor should rotate at the maximum speed indicating that the operating module is not working

End of diagnosis

1. Electrical connections loose

2. The fan does not work

3. The operating module does not work

1. Renew the correct connections

See E6020 AIR CONDITIONING

2. Replace the fan

Op. 5040C30 AIR CONDITIONING FAN - R.R.

3. Replace the fan operating module

Op. 5040C44 FAN MOTOR ELECTRONIC VARIATOR - R+R

Manual air conditioning

When the on/off switch is pressed, the climate control does not work.

5CHECK ON CORRECT OPERATION OF FANAll OKProblems encounteredOperation

Check whether the electrical wiring connections are loose

See E6020 AIR CONDITIONING

Disconnect, visually inspecting for any damage to the connector contacts.

Reconnect the connection to the motor mounting.

Check that it rotates at all speeds by activating it using the switch.

If it does not turn at the maximum speed, check the maximum fan speed relay. Disconnect the connector for the fan and connect to a feeder (12V DC).

In these conditions the motor should rotate at the maximum speed indicating that the operating module is not working
