10 EngineA) Idling (engine warm)

Engine idle speed when warm: version without air conditioner 750 ± 50 rpm
version with a/c 800 ± 50 rpm

Engine idle speed when cold: 950 ± 50 rpm

A) Idling (engine warm)

NOTE Before adjusting idle speed, allow engine to warm up (coolant temperature should be about 85°C, which corresponds to radiator fan coming on for second time).

NOTE Before adjusting idle speed, ensure adjustment is not affected by position of residual flow screw (4).
To check this, move accelerator lever 1-2 mm from arrest position to ensure engine speed does not increase. Otherwise unscrew residual flow screw (4) until speed does not increase when the test is repeated.

Adjust idle speed with fan off and without other appliances activated (heated rear windscreen, air conditioner, etc). If the fan comes on during adjustment, suspend the operation until fan is again at a stand-still.

Adjust speed by means of screw (5) to obtain specified speed.

After adjustment, fit a 1 mm shim (3) between accelerator lever (1) and residual flow screw (2). Tighten screw until speed increases by 20-50 rpm: then tighten by means of lock-nut.

B) Fast idle (engine cold)

With engine cold, ensure that lever (1) is in contact with fast idle adjustment screw, and check that engine speed is as specified. Otherwise, adjust screw (2) until specified speed is obtained.
