Engine cold

Thermostatic sensor (2), fitted to thermostat case, operates automatic fast idle control lever (6) via connecting lead (1).

With engine cold, thermostatic sensor is in rest position, because engine coolant is below cut-in threshold temperature (60°C ± 2°C).

Engine warm

When engine coolant reaches cut-in temperature, thermostatic sensor (2) starts operating and plunger (3) begins to move slowly in response to the gradual increase in coolant temperature. As a result, cable (1) pulls lever (6) until idle speed position is reached.

In this position, appendage of lever (6) must be in contact with idle adjustment screw (5).
