ENGINE IMMOBILIZER FUNCTION (Fiat-CODE)

This function makes it possible to immobilize the vehicle by stopping the electrnic injection control unit on petrol versions.

On diesel versions, the engine is stopped by means of a module fitted on the pump which stops the supply of fuel.

Each key contact starts a process for checking the authenticity; if recognized by the passenger compartment protection control unit (C.P.H.), the latter allows the release of the injection electronic control unit or the diesel pump.

The Fiat CODE system consists of:

  • ignition key containing a specific access code for the vehicle (transponder);
  • transponder receiver (aerial);
  • passenger compartment protection control unit (C.P.H.);
  • electronic injection control unit (diesel pump for diesel versions);
  • vehicle starting go ahead warning light.

The C.P.H. contains a memory through which it manages all the functions; this memory can only be accessed diagnostically via the four digit code on the card in the possession of the owner; once programmed, the control unit will only recognize this code.

The control unit makes it possible to programme five codes for different transponders.

When switched on, the C.P.H. produces 125 Khz which allows the transponder code, in the ignition key, to be read by the receiver (aerial).

When the access code has been read, the software inside the control unit checks its validity.

Therefore each time the vehicle is switched on, the C.P.H. checks the transponder code memorized in the key, compares it with the one inside its memory and, if the code is recognized, sends the specific access code to the injection control unit; the latter, having recognized the code, will allow the operation of the system, allowing the vehicle to be started up.

NOTE All the transponder programming procedures for the ignition keys should only be carried out diagnostically by connecting the diagnostic equipment to the special diagnostic socket.

Starting go ahead warning light signals (right hand drive versions).

With the ignition key removed, the injection control unit is stopped and the warning light in the dashboard flashes at a frequency of 1 Hz per second.

The warning light flashing option is selected and programmed diagnostically.
