D10 Irregular engine idle speed

The engine runs irregularly at idle speed. In particular, it fails to stay constant and regular as the load changes (e.g. when electric devices are turned on).

Preliminarily check:
– correct type of spark plugs
– condition of spark plugs and respective wires
– condition of air cleaner
– intactness of air intake circuit

1		CHECK WITH DIAGNOSTIC TOOL Connect the diagnostic tool (Examiner or other tool) to the diagnostic socket. Check for: – absence of faults in the engine ECU – plausibility of all parameters	All OK Go to Step 2	Problems found Failed conversation with the ECU	Intervention Restore connection between the engine ECU and the diagnostic socket (Wiring diagram: E5030 “PETROL ENGINE ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT”)
				Error detected in the ECU	Continue as shown by the diagnostic tool
2		CHECK IDLE SPEED WITH A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL With the diagnostic tool (Examiner or other tool) carry out active tests of the idle speed actuator	All OK Go to Step 3	Problems found Idle speed actuator fault	Intervention Restore connection between idle speed actuator and ECU, (Wiring diagram: E5030 “PETROL ENGINE ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT”) or replace the idle speed actuator PROCEDURE OP. 1056A56
3		CHECK FUEL RECIRCULATION SYSTEM Check correct operation of the fuel fumes recirculation system	All OK Go to Step 4	Problems found Pipes clogged or presenting tiny holes	Intervention Restore the fuel fumes recirculation pipes and, if required, replace them. PROCEDURE 1080E
