D05 Engine fails to reach peak performance

The engine runs normally at medium/low speeds but does not reach the usual peak performance levels (in terms of both speed and acceleration).

Preliminarily check:

  • correct spark plug type
  • condition of spark plugs and respective wires
  • intactness of air intake circuit
  • any obstructio nof catalytic converter and other exhaust pipes
  • any obstacles to the complete accelerator pedal stroke
  • accelerator wire

1 CHECK WITH DIAGNOSTIC TOOL
Connect the diagnostic tool (Examiner or other tool) to the diagnostic socket. Check for:
- absence of faults in the engine ECU
- plausibility of all parameters		 All OK
Go to Step 2		 Problems found
Failed conversation with the ECU		 Intervention
Restore connection between the engine ECU and the diagnostic socket
(Wiring diagram: E5030 "PETROL ENGINE ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT")
Error detected in the ECU Continue as shown by the diagnostic tool
2 CHECK FUEL PRESSURE
Check the fuel supply pressure
PROCEDURE OP. 0510C10		 All OK
Go to Step 4		 Problems found
Incorrect pressure		 Intervention
Check the circuit components in sequence:
-- fuel filter
PROCEDURE OP. 1044B10
-- pressure regulator
-- fuel hoses
PROCEDURE 1040 B
3 CHECK CYLINDER COMPRESSION
Perform cylinder compression test
PROCEDURE OP. 0510A10		 All OK
Go to Step 5		 Problems found
Incorrect compression values		 Intervention
Restore correct cylinder compression
