101 Side/taillights - number plate light do not work

When the key is at MAR operating the knurled ring of the steering column lever unit either the side/taillights or the number plate light do not work

Preliminarily check
– protection fuses (F4 and F5)

1 CHECK SINGLE LIGHTS Check that the single bulbs and the bulb holders are intact All OK Problems found Intervention
Go to Step 2 Bulbs damaged Replace bulbs
Faulty bulb holder Restore or replace:
– rear light cluster
PROCEDURE OP. 5540A44
– front light cluster
PROCEDURE OP. 5540B26
– number plate lights
PROCEDURE OP. 5540A94
2 CHECK SIDE/TAILLIGHT ELECTRIC CIRCUIT Check in sequence
– connections between ignition switch, junction unit
and steering column lever unit
– bulb earth
(Wiring diagram E2010 "Side/taillights")		 All OK Problems found Intervention
Go to Step 3 Connections cut off Restore connections
3 CHECK STEERING COLUMN LEVER UNIT Check correct operation of steering column lever unit: in particular the Side/taillight switch: DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION 5550A All OK Problems found Intervention
Go to Step 4 steering column lever unit does not work correctly Replace steering column lever unit
PROCEDURE OP. 5550A10
(PROCEDURE OP. 5550A12 versions with airbag)
4 CHECK SWITCH Check the side/taillights come on when turning the ignition key in the opposite direction All OK Problems found Intervention
Go to Step 5 Faulty ignition switch Restore or replace ignition switch
PROCEDURE OP. 5520A10
(PROCEDURE OP. 5520A12 versions with airbag)
5 CHECK CORRECT OPERATION Check the fault is no longer present All OK Problems found Intervention
