Deflection method

  1. Apply a force of 100N (10kg, 22lbs) and measure the deflection between the alternator and crankshaft pulley.

A/C Compressor Belt

Used Belt: 10.0 – 12.0mm (0.39 – 0.47in)
New Belt: 4.2 – 7.0mm (0.18 – 0.28in)

Power Steering Pump Belt

Used Belt: 13.5 – 16.0mm (0.53 – 0.63in)
New Belt: 9.5 – 11.5mm (0.37 – 0.45in)

Note: If there are cracks or any damage evident on the belt, replace it with a new one.

Diagram showing A/C compressor belt routing with callouts A, B, C, D, E, F and torque values 45 N m and 22 N m. Figure number 80M0116.
  1. A Upper mounting bolt
  2. B A/C compressor belt
  3. C Crankshaft pulley
  4. D A/C compressor
  5. E Lower mounting nut
  6. F Adjusting bolt
  1. Loosen the upper mounting bolt and the lower mounting nut.
  2. Turn the adjusting bolt to obtain the correct belt tension, then retighten the lower mounting nut and the upper mounting bolt.
  3. Recheck the deflection of the belt.

Tension Gauge Method

  1. Attach the belt tension gauge to the belt and measure the tension.

A/C Compressor Belt

Used Belt: 450 – 600N (40 – 60kg, 99 – 132lbs)
New Belt: 950 – 1150N (95 – 115kg, 209 – 254lbs)

Power Steering Pump Belt

Used Belt: 350 – 500N (35 – 50kg, 77 – 110lbs)
New Belt: 700 – 900N (70 – 90kg, 154 – 198lbs)

Note:

  • If there are cracks or any damage evident on the belt, replace it with a new one.
  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the belt tension gauge.
