HEADLIGHT ALIGNMENT ADJUSTMENT - DESCRIPTION

The adjustment of the light beam for the headlamps depending on the load is produced using the adjustment device located directly on the headlamps. This device, controlled by a button in the panel to the left of the steering wheel, tilts the headlamp parabola appropriately in order to lower the light beam if the vehicle is particularly laden and raise it when the load conditions decrease. The device is enabled only with the dipped beams on.

There are four predefined positions for the headlamp alignment (from 0 to 3). These four positions are produced by adjusting the top part of the headlamp alignment switch to direct the light beam upwards (positions 3, 2, 1, 0) and the bottom part to move it downwards (positions 0, 1, 2, 3); the setting is memorized and shown on the instrument panel display.

If there is a fault in the system the headlamps assume a configuration which avoids the oncoming drivers from being dazzled.

XENON GAS HEADLAMPS

The vehicle is fitted with two gas discharge headlamps.

The left lamp is the master control unit, whilst the right one performs a slave role.

The master lamp acquires the command for the dipped headlamps, the vehicle speed and, for managing the function in question, the signals from two sensors (potentiometers) located on the wheel axles, which measure the geometry at the front and at the back.

Depending on the inputs, the control unit controls the adjustment motor located in the headlamps directly and tilts it appropriately on the version with gas discharge headlamps the adjustment of the light beam takes place automatically and there are not the two buttons in the panel on the left hand side.

The device is enabled only with the dipped beams on.

The relay which controls the engagement of the dipped headlamps also supplies the adjustment motors inside the headlamps; this relay for switching the dipped headlamps on is managed by the Body Computer: relay energizing is activated by enablement signals with key in the ON position and by the steering column switch unit dipped headlamps control.
