ELECTRIC STEERING - OPERATIONAL DESCRIPTION

1.8

The electrohydraulic power assisted steering control unit M086 controls and regulates the electrically operated steering system.

The direct power supply for the control unit arrives from the battery via the line protected by maxifuse F73 of the battery control unit B099 at pin 1 of connector A of M086. Pin 2 of connector A of M086 is earthed.

See E1010 POWER SUPPLY

The ignition-controlled power supply (INT from steering lock control unit) arrives from the line protected by fuse F51 of the junction unit under the dashboard B002, at pin 1 of connector B of M086.

The control unit M086 receives the steering angle signal directly from the special sensor K058 connected to connector D of the control unit: the latter provides a power supply and a general earth from pins 1 and 2, whilst pin 3 receives the signal corresponding to the steering angle.

The control unit M086 is connected via the CAN (pins 2-3 and 4-5 of connector B) with the other nodes, in particular the Body Computer M001 and the instrument panel E050 to which it sends signals for switching on the electric steering failure warning light.

The autodiagnostic data can be read by connecting to connector C of the Body Computer M001 (pin 12): it receives signals from pin 2 of connector C of control unit M086 via the special diagnostic K line.
