EXTERNAL REAR VIEW MIRRORS

ELECTRIC REAR VIEW MIRROR ELECTRIC SYNOPTICS

The functional diagram for the electric management of the door mirrors is illustrated below.

EXTERNAL REAR VIEW MIRRORS
  • 1 Remote control
  • 2 Steering Wheel Node (NVO: incorporates the high frequency receiver and manages the signal reception)
  • 3 Body Computer Node (NBC: manages the folding and opening of the door mirrors)
  • 4 driver''s seat memorizing button (where fitted)
  • 5 Driving Position Node (NAG: manages the seat memorizing (where fitted))
  • 6 Passenger Door Node (NPP: manages the adjustment of the passenger door mirror)
  • 7 Passenger door mirror (incorporates the adjustment and folding motors)
  • 8 Driver''s door mirror (incorporates the adjustment and folding motors)
  • 9 Driver''s Door Node (NPG: acquires the status of the door mirrors adjustment button and manages the adjustment of the driver''s door mirror)
  • 10 door mirror adjustment controls

OPERATION

Electrical adjustment

The operation of the rear view mirrors is guaranteed:

  • when the ignition key is in the +ACC or +MAR position,
  • for a minute after the interruption of the +ACC,
  • the NBC delays the placing on stand-by by a minute if a sequential or manual command is made at the end of the minute. All commands are inhibited during the 2nd minute,
  • if the user sends a command from a rear switch, it will be interrupted when the timed period expires if a manual command is involved and, on the other hand, will continue through until the end of a sequential command is involved.
  • until the closing, after the opening of the driver''s door if this intervenes before the end of the timed preriod.
  • for the folding using the remote control (interrupted contact), the NBC activates the door nodes to carry out the command.

Adjust the special switch (D) in all four directions to regulate the mirror.

Switch C selects the mirror to be adjusted.

These mirrors are equipped with an electrical demisting device; it is automatically activated when the heated rear windscreen button is operated; this function is automatically deactivated after a few mintues as it works on a timer.

Electric folding (if fitted)

The folding can only take place with the ignition key in the ACC or MAR position. Operate button C in position 3 to fold the mirrors.

EXTERNAL REAR VIEW MIRRORS
  • A - Folding mirrors selection control
  • B - Mirrors without folding function selection control
  • C - Mirror adjustment switch
  • 1 Left rear view mirror adjustment
  • 2 Right rear view mirror adjustment
  • 3 Rear view mirror folding function

Pressing button C alternately controls the folding or opening of the rear view mirrors.

The rear view mirror folding function can also be controlled automatically the moment there is a "locking request" for the vehicle doors using the remote control.

Operating diagram

Rear view mirror adjustment:

  • the driver''s door control panel permanently transmits its status to the NPG (rear view mirror selected, movement direction required),
  • the NPG transmits the status of the control panel switches for the door to the NBC,
  • the NBC sends the command for the movement of the rear view mirror in the required direction to the door node involved depending on the status of the door panel,
  • the door node carries out the command.

Folding/opening rear view mirrors using the folding button:

  • this operation takes place as described in the previous paragraphs as far as the acquisition of the folding request by the NBC is concerned,
  • the NBC sends the folding/opening command for the driver''s rear view mirror to the NPG and for the passenger rear view mirror to the NPP,
  • the door nodes carry out the command received (folding or opening).

Door mirror defrosting:

  • the defrosting order comes from the rear windscreen defrosting control. After having acquired the defrosting request, the NBC sends the defrosting command to the door node involved.

Automatic folding (if activated)

Automatic folding is systematically carried out the moment the locking request is sent via the remote control. This function is available at any time.

The mirrors are opened automatically when the ignition key is turned to the +ACC position.

In the case of automatic folding or opening, pressing the folding button reverses the direction of rotation of the door mirror.

It is possible to select the activation or deactivation of the automatic folding function using the door mirror selector:

  • each time it is pressed for more than 3 secs, the configuration changes state to go from active to inactive and viceversa. An acoustic signal indicates the change in configuration.

Initialization procedure

After a forced mechanical movement, the door mirror folding mechanism is switched off (or uncoupled). As a result, the electrical state no longer corresponds to the mechanical state; to switch the folding mechanism back on and ensure that the mechanical and electrical states for the rear view mirror position corresopnd, the following actions should be carried out after the folding or opening of the rear view mirror.

Acquisition of outside temperature

The NPP acquires the outside temperature value from the sensor in the right door mirror.

The NPP transmits the outside temperature information to the NBC.

EXTERNAL REAR VIEW MIRRORS
  • 1 Body Computer Node
  • 2 Passenger Door Node
  • 3 Right door mirror
  • 4 Outside temperature sensor (on right door mirror)

Operation in case of faults

If there is a fault with the VAN, the local control for the door mirror allows:

  • the stop of the passenger door mirror manual adjustment controls,
  • the stop of the driver and passenger door mirror defrosting controls,
  • the folding cycles in progress reach a conclusion, then the (driver and passenger door mirror) extension position is assumed.
  • the manual adjustment of the driver''s door mirror,

Diagnosis

The door nodes carry out the fault diagnosis for the various inputs/outputs.

REAR VIEW MIRRORS DEFROSTING FUNCTION

The functional diagram for the electric management of the door mirror defrosting is illustrated below.

EXTERNAL REAR VIEW MIRRORS
  • 1 Driver''s door mirror (incorporates the door mirror heating resistance)
  • 2 Driver''s Door Node (NPG: controls the defrosting of the driver''s door mirror)
  • 3 Passenger Door Node (NPP: controls the defrosting of the passenger door mirror)
  • 4 Passenger door mirror (incorporates the door mirror heating resistance)
  • 5 Heated rear window
  • 6 Body Computer Node (NBC: manages and controls the timed defrosting of the door mirrors and the heated rear windscreen)
  • 7 Engine Management node (NCM: provides engine running information)
  • 8 Climate Control Node (NCL: acquires the defrosting activation request made using the special button, or through the activation of the demisting function (MAX button in climate control system control panel), manages the button warning lights,
  • 9 heated rear windscreen actication button

The rear view mirror defrosting function includes the following stages:

  • the NBC determines the forced switching off level for the loads,
  • the NCL acquires the defrosting activation/deactivation request from the button on the front panel and transmits it to the NBC via the VAN Confort network.
  • the NBC sends the switching on command for the heated rear windscreen button warning light to the NCL via the VAN Confort network,
  • the NBC manages the timed operation of the defrosting,
  • the NBC controls the heated rear windscreen and transmits the defrosting request for the door mirrors to NPG and NPP via the VAN car 2 network,
  • the NCL switches the heated rear windscreen warning light on or off depending on its operating state.

Operation in case of faults

If the battery voltage is above or equal to 15V, the defrosting function is deactivated.

Forced switching off of loads

The load deactivation function (implemented by the NBC) is aimed at preventing the battery from being run down or even ruined, by temporarily interrupting the current; depending on the deactivation level, the defrosting function can be deactivated; it is not taken into consideration for the windscreen wipers/washers but for defrosting.
